Why Is Alcohal Legal And Weed Not?

Personally, I think both substances impair your judgement. Since, I have experienced both scenes, I can give a brief explanation at what I see at each event.

    Party With Alcohol:

Starts off as fun, dancing, and taking shots. Ends with 10 people in a bathroom waiting for the toilet and kids lying face down in beds. Also, much higher chances of unwanted sexual promiscuity and car crashes.

    Party With Weed:

Starts off as chilling and smoking. Ends with chilling, walking around, and possibly driving. Less chance of an accident. Also, decreased sex drive.

    What's worse?

I think that the U.S. bans weed only to say they are doing something productive. There is no reason for alcohol to be legal and not weed. Unless you guys know of some. CLUE ME IN!!!

    Hey Kevin, could you elaborate?

Well I think the reason Alcohol is legal and weed isn’t because there is more medical risks in taking weed than it is to drinking. Drinking alcohol leads to a loss of coordination, poor judgment, slowed reflexes, distorted vision, memory lapses, and even blackouts. THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) damages the nerve cells in the part of the brain where memories are formed, making it hard to remember things. In drinking the effects last about 1-2 hours per drink and 1-4 hours when smoking weed. Kind of sad, if you drink even one glass of alcohol you can fail a breath detector and get your drivers license taken away but smoking any substance—tobacco, marijuana, or crack cocaine—increases your risk of developing pneumonia and other illnesses. I am not saying either of these items are good but there is a reason why alcohol has an age limit. You are an adult and you should have some self control on how much you drink so I do not think alcohol should be illegal. I think any kind of tobacco item Should be illegal because they can harm other people and give them life long medical problems (I know alcohol can cause drunk driving and kill people in accidents). But that is my opinion (sorry that this is long lol)

I meant to say Marijuana but isn’t it the same as Weed just a different name? Anyways if you do want to read up on it I have the websites that show where I got my information. And I know that weed is used for medical problems but people can only use the amount given by the doctor’s orders right? Other than that it is illegal to have it. Have a great day

    Hey Sean,

everyone knows that marajuana ain't half as bad as Alcohol...everyone knows that...and if you don't...then find me the doctor who will prescribe alcohol to people to ease their pain and relax them, or find a party of pub with people fighting and tell me are they drunk or are they stoned.

From a more practical point of view. The government is all about control and power, and seeing as money is power, the government is all about money and the control of wealth. The Alcohol industry brings in millions of pounds worldwide to governments, as does tobacco...and this is great because most people can't make their own alcohol to a level worth the effort except for a hobbie..and we're talking small amounts [mainly...but i know this one guy..man..]

But it's not the same with marajuana...you can grow it anywhere..in a cupboard in your flat with only a few lights and some seeds...and the crop you get from a few months efforts yields a decent amount of grass..which is the common name for the purer form of marajuana...you can smoke it, sell it, make clothes from it...do anything you want with it.

The problem for the government is the lack of control it would have over such a self created industry...how could it tax such a thing?...if everyone came to their senses, stopped drinking and began growing their own crop of grass...they would lose a tonne of money and they aren't about to let that happen.

Hence the illegal nature of this drug.

Cannabis was outlawed in the US when the oil industry, the paper industry and clothing industry lobbied congress to get it banned. The reason is that cannabis is one of the most versitile forms of plant on the planet. You can produce all three of the major products already listed above, plus by some 1,000 or so other uses above and beyond smoking it.
If it was used to it's fullest commercial potential we would be going some way to repairing the atmosphere, all plants produce oxygen but cannabis is one of the larger producers... it crops at least three times a year. It was used once upon a time as a natural pesticide, my grandfather could remember as a boy seeing it being grown around vegetable gardens.

The drug side of it is boring, but wow, what a plant.
I used to be a member of the LCC legalise cannabis campaign and got a lot of this info during that time. The Face mag also ran an extensive article, saying pretty much as I have above, a few years back.
So you see, it's the corporations who have the real say in our world, those that produce the wealth... alcohol keeps us all nicely in our places, cannabis is known to make people think.
Drugs and alcohol are there to be used or abused, and that is down to education, if we are truly informed then we have the facility to choose, but no one has the right to dictate as to what drug one can imbibe in... after all alcohol causes infinately more problems within society than cannabis ever will.

    love and light

I would say that both are equally deadly. But sadly (in a defeatist attitude) the goverment can't eradicate it...Addiction can lead a person to go hell and back to get what they desire. So even if the goverment eradicate it. People can still get it in the black market

Alcohol & Weed Shouldn't Be Legal In My Eyes, However...I Disagree With Alot Of Things That People Choose To Do That Dosen't Mean It Should All Be Illegal...I Think Weed Should Be Legal Because Whether You Legalize It Or Not...Millions Will Still Use It Everyday xoxo-Nikki-xoxo

  • Kevin

I'd have to disagree with you there, Ismail they are not equally as deadly.

Eating marajuana every day will not kill you, though if you smoke it with tobacco you might get cancer...drinking every day will have a massively negative effect on your health.

So right there i think you see my point. I've never gotten into a fight with someone who has been stoned....thought i've been invovled in violence with lots of drunk people. Violence I'm sure you'll all agree is one of the most upsetting things we humans can inflict upon one and other. Alcohol encourages this, Marajuana does not.

    I could go on.

PS, for the record, I don't smoke the stuff as it dulls my senses in ways i don't like...though I prefer it by miles to alcohol and would much rather see drink banned than pot.

Alcohol cannot be banned, as it has become a part of the culture. Weed is banned because it may easily lead to worse drugs

Kevin Murray, I think the purer form of Marijuana is "Hemp" not "Grass" maybe, "Grass" is slang, I don't know.

Had a good look 'round the topic, singled out this:

"Marijuana is a gateway drug because it is illegal"

Nope. TOBACCO is a gateway drug because it is LEGAL. Marijuana is the natural progression from the gateway for those looking for a thrill. The illegality of marijuana is irrelevant. If you stuck it in a cigarette packet and stuck sales tax on I can pretty much guarantee that within ten years you would have no more people smoking it then than you do now.

Just lower crime figures and less violence.

I don't smoke. I have done, and I may again. And I know from first-hand experiences that marijuana is just like anything else that intoxicates you: if you're not going to do it in moderation, you are going to encounter problems.

Heck, you should see my wife a day away from a jar of coffee...

I wouldn't go as far as to say "great". Take "alcohol in Baileys liqueur". That's just horrible. Who'd do that to alcohol? But "alcohol in a nice cool pint of Kronenberg 1664 on a hot sunny day in the middle of July"... Yep, that's alcohol that's great. :-)

Hmm interestign topic I agree to an extent that both are mind altering and the effects they have are very different...I dont know many dope smokers who a) go out partying period cause they be sooo damn paranoid b) start fights, most cant even maintain eye contact cause they paranoid OR c) drive, let alone recklessly because they so paranoid LMAO

I think they are both equally damaging but its up to each individual to limit there intake in moderation and with responsibility.

Also where I come from weed is not illegal but dicriminalised so its kind of different...

Alcohol WAS illegal in the U.S. for fourteen years.

18th Amendment, 1919: It's illegal to make, sell, or consume alcohol.
21st Amendment, 1933: Cancels 18th. Allows states to prohibit importation of alcohol.

    Thank you wikipedia.org.

    Talendor,

make no mistake, the government will never be able to make as much money from weed as it does from alcohol...because people can grow respectable amounts in their own homes...and so evade taxation...in fact, making it legal and trying to tax it would only encourage to be home grown.

The only reason the goverment is trying to stop drug trafficking is nothing to do with it's harmful effects on us mortals, because alcohol kills more people than every illegal drug combined,,FACT....and it's legal...it's because they can't control the drugs and thusly make money from them that they are illegal.

There is a war on drugs, and the drugs people are winning....which is an insult to everyone trying to beat them that they can be outwitted by stoned high people.

    It is legal?

Well... Here in the Netherlands it is. Amsterdam will probably ring a bell??.....

Although it's legal here, I don't believe it's something to be happy about.
Because..... everyone is doing it.. Half my school mates are stoned during the lessons.....

    Great?..... No.. not really...

  • Kevin

Talendor, I'm afraid you are wrong my friend.

Don't you know about the fields of marajuana grown all over asia and brazil? Do you really think all the pot in the world is grown at home?

Do the math and you'll see it doesn't work...too much demand...no mate, there are farms for this stuff..and it's a big import export business.

  • Mona

It's not that hard though, to grow weed. A friend of mine has a few plants.

But yes, as someone mentioned before, I believe kevin said it, it's not a big scale thing indeed.

^^ and indeed it's easier to walk down the store to buy it..

I think there are far bigger detriments to society than weed.

At least when people get stoned they're sitting at home or helping Plaid Pantry stay in business. They arent out doing graffiti or obstructing the law.

There just isnt very big of a lobbying platform for weed.

It's cheap, and people do it anyway. You can do it anywhere.

The federal government puts so much unnecessary emphasis on pot. Get a grip, it's the least harmful drug out there. I know Nyquil abusers who cause bigger trouble :p.

How can you say Weed is as bad for you as alochol? Yes putting smoke in your lungs is bad. Everyone knows that. Yes it will cause some short term memory problems. Yes your lungs wont be as good but alochol causes alot more. First of all lets not forget getting alochol poisioning is VERY easy. I have had many friends who have done it. You cant OD on weed. So alochol can kill you, weed cant. Is weed a gateway drug? Maybe so but it doesnt have to be. You cant say "if you smoke weed you WILL do other drugs" alot of epople just smoke weed. Ok theres my say lol

  • Kaitlin Kristina

Plus, you dont really get chemically addicted to weed. There arent "weedaholics" out there. Being a stoner is a phase, not somthing that will normally do longterm damage to ones life.

And weed is a much cleaner smoke than cigarettes or cigars are, are you kidding me? There are HUNDREDS of chemicals in cigarettes.
