Child Abuse

I was so shocked and horrified reading news of two different cases of child abuse, one in China and one locally.

Case 1: A small child in China was hungry, so took the equivalent of US1.00 from his mothers purse to buy something to eat. The mother on finding out that the child stole from her then stitched the child's lips together.

Case 2: A Japanese woman who wanted to teach a 10 year old boy a lesson locked him in a box for hours. He was found unconscious and sent to the hosiptal. They tried to save him and he was in intensive care for 3 days before he died.

What kind of parents are these? Putting them in jail is not enough, they should be shot or hung. What are your views?

That's nothing.. I know a 13 year old girl who cuts herself because her mother took her celly away... and wants to kill herself.
Another threatened to shoot his dad because she couldn't go rollerskating. (sarcasm)

My God if these kids only knew what kids in other countries are going through. :(

As far as those parents, in my opinion having them shot or hung is the easy way out. Maybe lock them up in a small box like in case number 2 - might be in order.

I agree in a way, Child abuse is horrible. No parents should ever treat their kids that way. But just to look on the other side (as I do, not that I agree with child abuse), Some countries other than America have certain laws and fears that resides in the people. They could be afraid that because their child is "bad" it may cause some punishment over the whole family and so on. But in America, yes, parent child abusers should be punished severely.

The abuse of children is almost always the result of the abuse of children who become parents.

And so, rather than prattle on about how awful an issue it is, which is obvious and will I garantee, lead to arguements in here as it has done so many times before. We really should I feel be talking about how we can change the way children are raised and adults educated as to how to be parents.

I reckon people should be tested before they become parents to see if they are evolved/understanding and psychologically sound enough to raise a human being.

I'm not talking about a fascist control system that would be elitist...just a few questionaires, practical tests, assessments etc, just to raise the base level of parenting and provide education to those who need it before they have kids. I mean i work with young children..and before we're even allowed in the room with them we get weeks of training on social interaction, manual handling, psychology etc.....and it really helps.

    Yes you are right Steven...

People are sick and sadistic at times...

But with everyone caring more about themselves than the world they are living in. More sadistically evil torture will crop up.

You must have ideas of your own Steve or you wouldn't have asked right?

It would be very similiar to the training I recieved before starting my work with young people. You learn about how your every word and action can be picked up, interpreted and then copied by any children nearby, and so you are constantly self aware of your behaviour and actions given it's potential effects on children.

You also learn some basic psychology, attachment theory, bahaviourist and humanistic perspectives...which really does help you recognize patterns of behaviour and understand the best way to respond to them to benifit the childs growth. We also learn about diet and it's effect upon health...we learn about play therapy, sexual education and developement, body language etc. From this background, you speak in a polite positive way, you are careful of being negative, discriminatory, you take great efforts to broaden the mental and experience horizons of those around you....music, film, books, travel...all these good thing you try and share whilst all the while promoting each individuals right and ability to choose for themselves. Most of it's common sense...but when what should be common sense becomes advanced genius...we need to go back to basics.

I can't think of anything less complex and effecting on society than the raising of a child...yet for many lesser things like driving a car...you must take lessons and pass a test!...so why not something similar?...I know this is dangerous talk..because it reeks of Big brother...but i just see so many horrible parents with angelic little children who aren't going to stay that way for very much longer...and all i can think it if only they themselves were raised or educated in the ways of parenting....thing might improve in the world.
