Is society dying? And if it does what do you imagine if society dies?

    Your opinions please

Society is much the same as it's always been, only the reporting and information of it has gotten more powerful, and less worthy and accurate.

This is why most people think the world is going to pot, because they unfortunately believe all the crap they see on the "news" and in the "papers" and thinks it's fact.

Look outside and what do you see? All I see are reasonable people trying to get on with their lives...good people given half the chance.

Who I am talking to here? Is that you Bob?..why do you have two accounts!

You can't seem to explain to me why I might be that naive so I'd say you can't be well informed enough to make such a claim.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, whoever you are.

The person who made this thread did not mention environmental issues, they mentioned society...and if you know anything about history, you'd know there have been times when societies have been far worse off than we are today.

So, yes, I don't think things are as bad in terms of societal success as people make them out to be.

Society: western society, has become fragmented and paranoid by its bombardment of images that are fragmented and paranoid. How's that for a deconstructed western society!

society can never die as it is formed from the gathering of a people. however, the type of each society can die. If you take a look at the ancient Greeks and Homeric times, our society was built off of theirs and yet hardly any of that society remains because of the change in mentality of the populace. its not an instantaneous change and occurs over many years, but the change in mentalilty usualy results in the near destruction of the old framework of society to make place for a new framework. so, in otherwords then, the frameworks of soceity are remolded over and over resuliting in completely different culture then what existed before. the western society that many of us here are a part is based on the social framework of the ancient Greek and Homeric times, but if you study such times, there is little evidence left in our social framework of them being key components. Documents from Alasdair MacIntyre outline this very clearly...if you can read it properly. (btw, MacIntyre is a renowned philosopher). it would also do you good to look into the works of Decartes, Kant, Kierkregard (sp) Hume, Locke, and Charles Taylor. each of the above philosophers have studied our current social framework and that of the past, and have works based on what they have learned. they are very interesting to read if you are interested in philosophy and the beginnings of our social framework along with what our social framework is becomming.

if society died there wouldnt be any people left. society changes for better or worse depend on where in the world you are.

Society isn't dying. It's always been the same, but we have to make allowances for the future, and expect change, good or bad.

Society will exist until humans are no more. It has to. We may live in a good or bad society (I'm not going into that topic now), but it'll be here as long as you life. Without it, we'd have no human interactions. We'd no jobs. We'd have no resources. We'd have nothing.

Maybe I am way off topic from everyone else, but this is my view. Society = the institutions and culture of a distinct self-perpetuating group.

Society, bluntly put, is not dying, it's dead.

Society today is chaos. Drugs. Murder. Politicians who'd choose money over justice. Gangs. Corupted cops. Hollywood & Vegas are disturbingly blind sighted if they choose to inforce that gambling & prostitution is 'living large'. If you're not size 0 you are fat & ugly. "Abortion, sure thats ok". Greed. Secrets. Deciet (yeah I know my spelling is chaotic as well =])

In contrast to the society way-of-life when our country was first founded, we've been tumbling down hill. Are the seven deadly sins suddenly acceptable? Sure we've had advancements technologically and ect...but the way "we" (not to sterio-type or offend) see the world is through the pair of glasses society has handed us. I've pointed out only some of our flaws, but couldn't think of anything very good to say about society...

So...did that make any sense? Mhmm...
