Okay this is the first time I have held a contest....so here goes.

Okay this poem contest is a little different than the others....I will give a few things you can choose to write a poem about but you can only choose one subject.

Okay topics are as follows...and please choose only one:

(1) The biggest achievement in your life to date.
(2) What you want your future to hold.
(3) The past.
(4) Your idol in life.
(5) The funniest thing in your life.

~The Enabler~

They call him the enabler,
the man sitting in that chair.
Solves other people's problems,
drowns in his selfless cares.

A man of age and wisdom,
of courage and of might.
Does what's best for others,
but not always what is right.

Does nothing for himself,
but always seems content.
It's as if he knows, eventually,
his good deeds will pay the rent.

The rent to everlasting life,
a one way ticket into heaven.
A never ending, soaring flight,
to be one in God's own brethren.

Closest to an earthly saint,
that I have ever seen.
Incapable of accepting hate,
how can a man be so serene?

This poem is about my grandfather, who brought me in when I was 5, and has raised me since then. There is no better idol...

Taylor, I love you, your voice, your hair,
Doesn't matter what color, I really don't care.
You're great, I vote for you at least 80 times a week,
I guess the gray in your hair gives you a stylish chic.

I can tell your voice from a mile away,
And I think about you at least a thousand times a day.
I love to see you, when you bust a move,
You put so much feeling into that groove.

Soul patrol is a part of my heart,
I've loved you since the very start.
I know you'll win, and I WILL buy your album,
I don't need to see the finale since I already know the outcome.

So, my darling Taylor, don't fret in two short years,
I'll finally be legal, and we can switch to relationship gears.

It Must Be (Future)

Inside I feel my heart flutter
Moving forward from the past into the future
A soul lingering in hope and relief
Knowing that never again will I suffer from grief

Happy to know nothing will truly make me sad
To know the truth and keep it to myself
It might seem a burden, but it's my treasure
Discovering mysteries is life's greatest pleasure

If I must grow, I have one wish
I want to always be like this
Living in the peace I've grown to love
A granted gift from heaven above

To know I am loved is enough
To love myself is even better
To ring out pain when it soaks me through
And let the sun shine down

I'm not scared of what will be
I know life comes and goes
I'm proud to know time ages with me
I wish to learn all there is to know

I want to open doors others have overlooked
I want them to see with newer eyes
I know in my heart that leaving
Never truly means goodbye

I move on with no regrets
Watching children put on shows
One day I will have my own
And watch God's miracles grow

For now, I love being me
The future knows no bounds
But if I let it fly too fast
I'll be 6 feet underground

So I'll continue as I have
My baby steps turned into leaps
I have all I need to have
I know my soul is free

I thank God each and every single day
For the life he's given me
Everyone parting ways
But I know that it must be

(2) The long lost dream

"I can not save the world" she says,
and looks at the sunset view,
She sits and thinks of wonder woman,
She wants to be her too.

At the age of only ten,
she knows what she'll become,
"If I can not touch everyone,
I will try to touch some."

She has decided years ago,
A writer is what she'll be.
She will not follow the rest of the crowd,
She won't be trapped, but free.

Five years later the dream came back,
"I almost let it fade,"
Now she thinks back to that night,
when the dream of her life was made.

She starts to tell people,
about her long lost dream,
She is so exited,
Out she wants to scream.

But people underestimate her,
"A writer? Please, come on"
Her courage took a turn,
Her fate was nearly gone.

She can't believe they even dared,
To think she couldnt win,
A tear fell down her burning eyes,
She burned deep within.

She decides in that moment,
She will never quit,
"I'm not going to save the world,
I'm going to change it!"

Wow, some cracking entries so far...I'm really enjoying reading them all....well done everyone and keep them coming.

Okay I'm gonna put a date on this competition.....all entries are to be in by end of this month (May) then I will judge then...things are a little slow lol and I would love to see some more spirit on the competition side....its all fun.

After Graduation (future)

It's a new world.
I'm not sure i want to look around.
I wont open my eyes
slowly but surely someday i will take a peek.

I feel too comfortable where i am now.
How can i change this feeling....
How can some people just not care.
How can people look forward to it?

I don't understand where i am going
Yet another turn in the twists of life.
Why cant we stay.....just......this way.
Instead of moving along.

Where can we turn to in this new world.
Who will we look to when we need help.
When will we see each other again.
I guess it is bye for now my friends.

But wait.... soon we will be going on to bigger and better things.
Scarier things, but we will live.
For i found the answer to life's sadness....
I will turn to my friends.

Of course...with my friends help i will look around.
I won't falter, or fall, i will stand my ground.
With the strength of my friends keeping me up
No one will dare push me down.
