Though the content is important, the title of a poem is the thing that normally draws me in. I noticed that if i had a crappy title, I would get less views. If I changed it to something else, the rates of the views increased. So I guess that the title really gives you a preview of what you're going to be reading. And who do you know goes to see a movie without seeing the preview and knowing what they're in for? It goes the same for me with poetry. |

The title is the attention grabber. If the title is "The need to bleed" you know its going to be another boo hoo sob story about how your life is terrible and you abuse yourself physically to amend those feelings. But if it is something that would lead the reader to curiousity then you know it'll strike interest. This can be done by naming your poem after a random object a love poem entitled Rubber Ducky. I'd be curious to figure out why someone named their love poem rubber ducky thus read and analyze or if you cut the title short. Life would be.. leads a reader to curiousity leading to reading. |

I always look at the title before reading the poem if I don't like the title I don't usually read the poem as for making up for a bad poem no I don't believe a good title does make up for a bad poem and yes the title often tells you a lot about the authors style of writing. |
