Cyclothymia

i looked at different mental illnesses in fear that i might have one. this is the one that fit me best. for people who do not know what it is: Cyclothymia is a chronic bipolar disorder that consists of short periods of mild depression alternating with short periods of hypomania. It is considered to be a chronic, low level form of bipolar disorder. The onset of each phase is separated by short periods of normal mood. Cyclothymic disorder is a recurrent, chronic, mild form of bipolar disorder in which mood typically oscillates between hypomania and dysthymia. It is not diagnosed if a person has had either a manic episode or a major depressive episode.
    (((Wikipedia))

is anyone on here diagnosed with this mental illness? If so please elaborate on what its truly like.

    xoxo

I'm not a doctor, but to be honest with you..

I believe that they make stuff like that up to explain certain things. They wanted to find out why some people kill and others don't. They said there was a 'crime gene'. Some people are 'born criminals'. I highly doubt that. I know there are some existing mental illnesses, that do effect certain people, but to me, this one sounds unbelieveable. They are just giving a 'scientific' name to something everyone goes through, and believe me, you wouldn't be alone on this 'disease'.

Again, I'm not a doctor, and I could be wrong. I'm just stating my opinion on the topic. However, I would like to know more about this topic. I'm always willing to learn something new :)

I know the feeling, I have

    hemochromatosis
    aspergillosis
    encephalopathy
    Anton's syndrome
    listeriosis
    cryptococcosis
    cirrhosis
    Encephalitis
    and
    Sarcoidosis

Just to name a few. Mind you all of these are extreamly rare, but I KNOW I have them because the internet told me! If you think you have a mental issue, see a doctor don't waste time wondering.

ok first of all dont use the internet to diagnose urself.

second if ur gunna use the internet NEVER use wikapedia half the stuff on there is made up junk!

third if u think something is wrong with you seriously go see a doctor and dont just open with i think i have this, just let him/ her tell u what they think. because the more you just say what u think u have the more they think you want something to be wrong with you , yeah i know ridiculous and not nice but hey its life...

You know, I think you're just looking for an illness to have, because having a mental disorder is a way to justify any problems you may be going through. You're not a psychiatrist. You suffer from mood swings because you're human, and a woman. I mean if I was to find a meaning for everything wrong with me, it'd cost me a hell of a lot in psychiatry bills. To list a few:

    Borderline
    EDNOS
    Narcissistic
    OCD
    Bipolar

Do you see what I mean. I don't really suffer from any of these, but I have symptoms from each catagory. I get god awful mood swings. I'm vain, overly proud, and like myself more than I like anybody else. And I won't eat if I put on excess weight, until I've dropped back down to my regular size. It doesn't mean I need to see a therapist about this. It's just how I am, and always have been. And I'm ok with that, because it's not doing any damage to myself or others.

Don't go looking for mental disorders to have. If you do this, you'll start worrying for no reason.

But of course, if it still won't put your mind at rest, see a doctor.

"The onset of each phase is separated by short periods of normal mood."

And then you hit highs and lows, just not as serious as somebody who is Bipolar right? That's just normal! There is not a single person here or anywhere else that can tell you this doesn't describe their life. Don't go looking to diagnose yourself, if you really truly think you have a problem then go see a professional. But this cyclothymia, this is exactly what life is: relatively "normal" most of the time, but we all have our ups and downs.

wasn't having a go... was just a general comment to the people upon this thread...

didn't meant to sound nasty or argant and i am sorry if it did. it's just there are many people who look into symptoms of things are then convince themselves that they have it and it isn't really a good thing for people to do in some cases.

Em...Cyclothymia means that, in short terms, a swing between happiness and depression, more hyper in the happiness though =P Though sad in the depression 0.0 It's okay, but i'd rather it wasn't there.. =( but its okay =) cause it makes no difference to me ^_^ Cause i love the person very much and i just want to help =) hopefully it'll go away though.. Enjoy yourselves!

Um... well once you're diagnosed with something, you can start getting treatment for it. That's what it does.

    Yup. Go to the docter!

After I went, he told me I had Depression and an anxiety disorder {I can't remember which one}..And, he thought I had something else aswell, but wanted to look into it further first.. =)

So go get a REAL docter to tell you what you have. Not the internet.

^^ k, no offense, but the internet also states that there is an illness that makes your head explode, and that symptoms of this are reading 7 or more hours a day, thinking too much, hearing a ringing in your ears sometimes, and headaches.
If you really had more than what you listed, you would be seen by a doctor, not an internet site.
