How do you go about writing?

I, being a poet among other poets, am very curious.
How do YOU go about writing a poem?

My favorite way to write is to just let my mind slip into a trance, so to speak, and let that "trance" take me away.

    What about you guys?

I just go with the flow now. I used to try and like force the words out. And the poems would just make no sense.

But now I just wait untill I'm ready, So the poem actually sounds good.

With a pen and piece of paper.

No, truthfully, I only write when things come to me. But that is because I am lazy. I have a ton of stuff to finish and I know what I need to write I just don't do it. Everything is random at random places at random times with random ideas. But it all starts with a pen and paper.

I know how most of you feel, and I agree, it seems almost natural sometimes. Like second nature, yes.

I write after an emotional experience. I feel my best poems come after a heartbreak (see my Dark quote and No Longer Overdue). I too slip into a trance like mode and don't stop until I feel I am released.

I don't know, It's just...natural. An Idea will suddenly hit when I'm listening to music, reading, gazing off, sleeping, humming an unfamiliar tune...and so on.
