Can you get out of depression on your own?

If someone killed themself because of what I (or anyone else for that matter) said over the internet then their problems were way out of all of our hands.

It IS pathetic to cut yourself and yes it IS pathetic to soak in a pool of self pity and then seek sympathy from others. It's completely useless. It gets you no where. Instead of living the same life every single day of your life why not do something about it. Why not pull yourself out so you can smile once again.

What I'm saying means nothing to you because I'm such a "heartless witch" right? What ever little one....take care...hopefully you'll open your eyes!

Yeah, I read what 'they' wrote.. before it got delete.
That wasn't very nice. Stop attacking Nat.

Get back to what the topic is.

Can depression be a phase that passes or is there no way of getting out unless you get help?

Depression can come to an end in two ways. With time, or with help. It's the simplest answer. If you want more details, I can explain.

Honestly, I don't think that was necessary ^ but what ever...

I personally believe depression is a personal thing...I think it's all in your head...I don't believe it's really an "illness" - I think you have to get yourself out. I don't believe there are doctors that "cure" you. Though talking to someone may help, you have to WANT to make a change.

If it is real depression, then no I personally don't think so. People who are depressed normally need councilling/ help from a professional. Also doctors give out anti-depressants, but I don't believe that they work.

I would encourage people to get help for depression of any kind, because it can really just take over your life and life is too short to waste so much of your time hating it. You are not weak for getting help, and it will save you a lot of pain. Sometimes people can get over it on their own, but it is prone to relapse and return. Do yourself a favor, figure out when you are depressed and learn how to fix it so you can get your life back. I know that not treating my depression was a HUGE mistake for me, one I am still paying for.

Miss Butterfly - I am a woman who can admit when I've done something wrong. Though I agree with my statement about some of the teens on here being whinny and cutting for attention I shouldn't have said it. I shouldn't have said it the way I did and I've apologized for that already so the point you were trying to prove by bringing that up is null and void.

As I stated before I will NOT change who I AM to better suit you and your feelings. I AM WHO I AM and if you don't like it you don't have to read it, you don't have to pay any attention to me at all.

Calm down? I wasn't hyper or upset at all...but when it comes to ME caring about other people do NOT tell me to calm down.

On depression. remember the quote from descartes:

    'I think, therefore I am'

^^ That quote is insignificant to this arguement.

Descarte was merely trying to prove his existence. He had doubted everything that existed, except for himself.

That is why he came up with the quote, "I think, therefore I am"
I know my history and philosophy.
