Never For Ever

how do you feel about things that are in the past, about things that will never be the same again, or things that are just gone, gone gone...???
For me it's scary. I love things the way they are right now and the thought of everything that might be nothing anymore the next time I wake op scares me. Do you know what I mean? When I look around me people think about nothing, you know. They just worry about things that don't really matter. The past few days I've been thinking and I hope that one day I'll be able to say thank you for all the days and hopes and everything else I've already had. Cause right now I'm just scared of losing something, somebody...

Well, a big transition for me was going from High school to college, and I'll never be able to experience those high school days again, with all of my friends and my girlfriend... but I'm looking forward to the future too. Maybe instead of being afraid of losing something, you could be looking forwards to gaining something.

yes, I am looking forward to that as well, but just, sometimes, I feel like the days that are over, they'll never come back again, and they are a part of my life that is in the past. That, I think is strange and scaring.
you know what I mean? thanks for reacting.

edit : This isn't really a sad topic or so, but I thought that it fits in here better than in any of all the other topics. :)

I understand, and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same, if not unconsciously.

Yes, but how would you explain all the people who don't seem to care? Have we become a ras that is so not caring that we just live fast, without stopping every once in a while to think about everything we"ve done so far, and everything we'd want to accomplish in life?

I HATED high school...I wanted out so bad I quit. I ended up going to an alternative school and testing out early. Now I think back and wish I would have cherished my high school years. I missed prom...grad night...walking the stage with all my friends and saying goodbye to the people I spent 3 and a 1/2 years with. You love how things are with a boyfriend, or a best friend and then one day it all crashes...it's a scary thing but it's a part of life. Don't run from it...embrace the change...it's not always a bad thing, you know. I DO understand what you're saying but it's not as bad as you think it is now... ;) SMILE!

Don't worry about anyone stopping to smell the roses...if you do...do that and cherish it...if they don't care then you shouldn't.

Well I can't speak for everyone, but I'd imagine that knowing what you want to accomplish in life can be difficult to think about, especially when you're younger, and it can be harder to appreciate what has happened in the past when you're so wrapped up in how massive the future can be. A lot of the time people are occupied with just getting by, which isn't a bad thing, it's just a shame that they have to work so hard and focus so much.

Uhu, I think I get your point! :) Thanks, that's really nice said. But... What about all the things you did go through, except for all the things you've missed because you dropped out?

Yeah you're right I guess... Sometimes it's just hard to see how other people see life. I think that it's a good thing that I think about life a lot. But on the other hand, every question I ask myself leads to a new one. Right now I'm at : What is the point of living a prescribed life : you get born, go to school, graduate, profession, retirement, you die. Who came up with that? And why do we hold on to it this much ?

Well plenty of people don't live that life.

    E.g.

    -born (have to do it)
-go to school ( some people don't, some start working right away. some people don't go to school as long as others.)
-graduate (only if you go to school and don't drop out)
-profession (some people chose to not work, others are unable to find work. househusband and housewives don't work, although I think of them as a special case)
    -retirement (only if you worked)
    -you die (required.)

It just so happens that the path you described is common because it can yield a comfortable and relatively 'rewarding' life of 'accomplishment'. But people drop out of school a lot. Those people can be successful too. Some bums on the street can be perfectly happy with their lot in life. Some people never retire, they work until they die. It's all about choices.

remember the saying, "it is better to have loved than to never have loved at all?" that goes for life and everything good as well...

think of it this way... when things are destroyed, the memory stays forever...

Well, those days aren't over yet for you, so you should enjoy it now while you can.

It's a whole lot scarier to actually be in situations where you have nowhere to go and things will never be the same.

Like you get a letter in the mail that you've been suspended from the university...

or you've just burned all your bridges, all your friends now look at you in a completely different way because of something you wrote...

or you invested $40000 in a penny stock company only to go online to see that the website no longer existed...

the last one happened to a friend of mine, it was a fluke, the company is back online, but, man, that was a rough coupla days, you know?

those are the moments you curl in your bed, and god have mercy there's no weapon of any kind nearby because you are seriously ready to take a gun to your head...

those are all pretty bad bad things that you've written down there, you know...
So it wasn't really a fraud or something? your friend was really really lucky then! :o
and you're right, my days aren't over yet, and yes, I do try to enjoy it. I've been posing myself these questions because I'm reading this really good book now, I don't know if you ever heard of it : De wereld van sofie (Sofies World) It's all about life questions, and philosophy. That you need to have the ability to be surprised about the world, every day, over and over, like a little child does. It's very good, but makes me think lots!

yeah, he is. penny stocks are very very risky. but he usually knows how to manipulate it to his advantage. it turns out the server for the website was only temporarily down. a true stockbroker, however, would've probably sent out email explaining to their clients not to worry. as things like that very often lead to suicide.

I'm not really savvy enough, so I don't get involved in the stock-market, credit cards, etc. I don't like spending money that I don't have. It only leads to trouble.

And, yeah, that philosophy pretty much sounds like my approach to life. except with a little more objectivity.

I guess you have to like the risk of losing lots of money to go into stock market, etc. I wouldn't to it as well... :D

It's very hard! :D Those life questions, that have been posed so many times already, who'll be the first one to solve them? I believe that the answer to any of those questions can be different from person to person. No?
