his poem looks beautiful... after reading it a few times I started noticing the shapes that the stanzas made...

Sluvious I took your advice and had a read at the poem you suggested. This fella has a wonderful ability to describe so deeply in his poems...his feelings and emotions are carried well in the stanzas...I do agree that his writing is of a very very high standard and I couldn't find anything wrong with the poem at all. As for the quality of writing on the site....I think the main reason that a lot of people are on the site is to allow themselves to learn, be taught and to share with everyone their abilities. I for one can put my hand up and say my grammer is maybe quite bad at times...although its nothing to be ashamed of at all......many people write in their own way and all have their own style and I don't think there is anything wrong with that at all.........we can all learn from each other. Yes I have joined a club lol before anyone asks am I doing anything about my grammer etc lol.

I never get enough honest critism, and it does annoy me, as I can't improve if nobody is telling me where I'm going wrong.

And I hate the fact that most people take poems at face value, and don't really read deeper into them.

I once wrote a poem (and very poor one, to be honest) about cutting. I hated the fact that the it was assumed it was about me. I very rarely write about my own personal life, but about things I find interesting, but I had a couple of people sending me comforting messages, which I didn't need.

So many times have I seen the comments "I don't get it, it dosen't rhyme." As sluvious said, I wish people who are interested in the craft would at least spend some time to learn the different types of poetry there are and poetry forms. Many still are bound to a belief that poems must rhyme?

But I have also seen on other sites some established poets who still do not concentrate and make simple mistakes like calling a Senryu a Haiku, this is very common. If only people would pay more attention.

So how does one even expect understanding of other things by such poets about meter, syllables, diction, spelling, grammar etc. Many are so careless about grammar, but it is not as though we are asking everyone to be a grammarian. Just to have the basics correct.

The biggest part of poetry for me is the language. Many times I've received a bad comment for using words incorrectly and yet when I click on their "name" it would appear they're worse than me. I'm no master at English (or any other language for that matter), but I do put my all into making sure that the language is the best I can make it.

As you've all said, it is very sad that people do not take the time to understand poetry. If I could write or understand poetry the way some of you peeps do, I'd be very happy. All things come with time though. On this site we have many members who just don't really understand poetry enough to merit being able to critique anything.

there are exceptions becuase a lot of teens do act in that behavior. but i've also found adults that kind of do as well, leaving short comments "great job!" it's so annoying. if people leave me short comments like that i just don't comment back. not worth my time.

i do need to find more time to read around more though. i've been so busy lately i haven't even been able to keep up with my favorite poets. but i definately want to see if i can find some new, or less as popular poets on the site.
