hehe.. ^ i agree with the above! i dont rhyme my poems because i find that it makes my writing less emotional. i dont have a big enough vocabulary to express how i am feeling with words that rhyme..

I would say that if you can't find the words to rhyme, don't make them rhyme. Would you rather make your poem flow with your expression, or rhyme? I do some freestyle, and personally don't like it as well, but it is different for everyone. You may find it easier.

a forced rhyme is often one where you had to twist around a sentence to fit a word you needed to have there for the rhyme to work. If you can't find a natural or beautiful or poetic way to say it, sometimes I feel that it should go unsaid.

Poetry doesnt Necessarily have to rhyme. Just write what your heart feels. Thats real poetry at it's best, I dont care what anyone says.

don't force the rhymes. just write what feels natural and sounds good. ya don't need rhymes to be a great poet. good luck.

IMHO, it's far more important to work out a lyrical poem than one with rhyme. It "hurts" the mind to follow a poem and get grammatically bumped around just so a rhyme is met.

If you can do both and communicate what you want to say, great - but if not, don't force it.

A counter suggestion though is to always keep a thesaurus handy. Why always use the same words to rhyme if you can accomplish better results by expanding your vocab.

e.g - many times people will rhyme with "ee" or "ay" sounds - push yourself - think of using different sets of words instead....try and trim out all the common words such as "that", "the", etc...they can waste lyrical space and if freed up allow for better expressions and tighter poems.

And don't think of it as cheating - first get what you want to say down on paper then refine and polish it with new words...an artist doesn't paint a masterpiece on the first pass, and neither should poems be written that way either.

    Good writing - DM
