I myself think that's a good idea. I can't prove anything but I believe I have recieved bad votes. Janis I thank you for coming up with this action. I think it will help make the site a better place and poets on here will recieve the right kind of voting they deserve |

I think that when a highly disproportionate number of lowball votes are submitted for one poem over a short period of time, it is a good indication that there is foul play. For example let's say your poem has been up for 4 days with 20 votes. Then two hours later you notice that the vote tally has grown to 30 and the poem's overall score is significantly reduced. |

Sounds like a witch hunt to me:p. I was just wondering about those who receive a large number 5's or 4's in row. Is that concidered suspect??. Are you also going to monitor those ppl to make sure their giving fair ratings and not just "victims" of favoritism..(meaning giving a friend a boost). I know that alot of you are friends, and of course, you have to give your friends high ratings :p I would and do :) Is that wrong? I wonder if the ppl that are complaining about low ratings would still complain if they received all 5's...hmmm??? |

Kevin, I think what's meant by abuse is giving someone voting of 1 for a large number of their poems in a very short period of time... its very hurtful to see the work you spent your time and thoughts into to recieve a 1 rating without any reason... I do love to give people high ratings, I see no wrong in giving other poets encouragement and praise. |

I dont think it's okay to give a five to someone just because they're your friend. How can you not think that isn't 'bad voting'? Let me explain. I get all my friends to join this site and give me a five each. I'll be the best poet on here in no time. You should strive for 'honest voting', not 'friendly voting'. It'll make everyone a better poet. |

I agree with Kevin in that honest voting should be a goal. As of right now, rating means nothing to me. I vote as honestly as I can, but I don't look at the ratings on my poems as anything close to reality. I value comments over votes, as I think getting contructive feedback is a way for us to grow. Just as a 1 without a reason doesn't help, a 5 without a reason won't help us grow either. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate this action by Janis, I think it is a good thing because although it is only getting rid of half the problem, it is still getting rid of...well... half the problem. Heh. |

yeah, but Matt, do you sit and vote 1 after 1 after 1 on the same poem? That seems to be what they are trying to get rid of. |

Kevin McNulty is absolutely right....Janis...do consider giving THAT aspect a thought too... and besides, during my tenure, i've seen loads of poems here on this site that can't be called poems at all and they're rated way above what they're worth...i mean they cant be identified with iambic, trochee or any other miserable rythm and all they have are sleazy stories(pardon the expression)...on the other hand some excellent poems are totally underrated(to see for yourself check out stormi's poems and then tell me what you think)... |

I agree with Scratch Monkee actually i think that votes should be recorded with comments together like if you vote you MUST comment and what you VOTED is seen WITH your comment as to why it was rated at that mark....i think trying to obliterate friendly and negative voting is virtually impossible....but with a system like this all us members are able to see who is going around and giving negative votes and giving lotsa friendly votes too. Heres an example of what i mean |

I think we should try to encourage each other. If a poem is -that- bad then simply don't vote on it. Leave a comment giving the author advice on how the poem could be better. Don't put people down. We should all be helping each other. Isn't that what a poetry site is all about? |

I don't think Janis (the owner and the one to do the kicking off) has ever said he'd kick someone off if they voted 1's.... it's when there is a pattern of voting 1's over and over on one poem or a set of poems.... |

I dont really have an answer but I do need some help I mean I just posted a new poem today called " As I Look BAck" and I went to check in on it and it has 1.0 and one person voted only and i have noticed lately all my 5's are dropping to like 3.5's and I know my poems are not the best but my poem did not deserve a one ; It was an okay poem , and a lot of people have said to me that its wonderful but i feel as if my votes are ALL dropping and need some help .. |

I'm curious to why Janis doesn't suspend that Done w/ this s... individual...he's crude, rude and never has anything good to say. And to insult the creator of this site...that takes nerve. People are vengeful and arrogant, that is why they cheat at voting and give disrespectful comments to people that pour their hearts out into written word. I have yet to find a truely repulsive poem that chapped my &*$ enough to want to make a hurtful comment to someone. No one has done that to me thankfully and I don't intend to do it to anyone else! If people were a little more honest and had a little more care in their souls then we wouldn't even have this thread on the forum!! Take care all and be safe! |

I know how people are saying that if oyu have to vote when you write a comment then it would all work out, but it really wouldn't. Since voting is anonymous, no one know WHO voted a one (except for Janis). If poeple knew who had given them a one, they might go to the other person's poems and give THEM a one...it jsut goes on and on. |

Pretty sh*tty theory. What if the writer = a 1, 2, or 3 writer from someone's perspective that everyone else views as a 5? . . . Opinions always vary. Apply math to real life more please. |

why are you going to suspend someone if it is really what they thinks? i'm not saying that there are not false voters but still i think some of the poems are somewhat poor.To me it all just seems like a scare. |

So since I aired my opinions on a certain poem, All of my own works have dropped from 4's and 5's to 2's and 3's. Spiteful voting, yes? Have you noticed it yet? |

I agree with the whole finding "false votes" but if I think a poem is a 1,2 or 3 I am going to vote that way. Although I agree that if one person is voting 1's acrossthe board that he or she should be brought to justice, and I trust your ability to find "false votes" Janis. Thanks. |

maybe they went higher because the false votes were taken out. and they have established something that will detect and remove them... if you don't see any difference in your rating then, the votes probably aren't bad (or "malicious") enough for the system to deem them false votes. |
