what sort of award are you talking about? and how young?

Póετε§Š Call Me Glen-Duh! is 17, and she is one of the winners of the poetry contest.

boy there are a LOT of 14-16 yr olds in the 16 and under category...and not much younger.

    I'm 13 =]

I'm mediokre though, I don't see an award I'm capable to receive compared to the talent of the other young writers on this site=]

    They're pretty good.

I never thought of it as lowering standards as much as I have thought of it as amazement from the age and level of writing. Although I do feel like a child of the site, I have years to grow into my writing. It's been 4 years since I started, and that isn't going down the drain.

I'm 14 ! Lol and I try but i'm not sure if i like your idea because shouldn't real talent have no boundaries?

just keep in mind that the poetry never learn in someone it is your talent like some other said and even if your so young you can write as great as the other poets here so just keep in mind that one being a poet is a talent right

the awards don't generally depend on age, i was getting awards when i was 13/14 and it encourages younger writers to aim to get them, aim to improve their work... everyones capable of getting awards, they just need to work and practise and wait some time.

I'm 15, wouldn't say that I'm a great writer, but I like what I write and that's what matters...it allows me to express myself

ye, i'm 14 and don't get taken seriously around here sometimes.. not that i care, but i think others of my age and younger do. so an award for them would be helpful in recognising their talent, not the age gap. =D

I got published into Immortal Verses as well...it was quite a scam for that overal. Sorry if you were excited or anything, not meaning to burst your bubble or anything, but I considered it as a scam.

*Daniel94* is 12 yrs old. He is the best young poet I have seen on this site. He writes about things like war which surprises me about a 12 yr old. Not like they don't think about it but the stuff he writes means alot. He deserves some kind of award I think.

Yea, I know how you feel about the whole age thing, Like for instance, I've gotten comments b4 saying things like, Wow. This is good for you being only 14. I don't like those ones. I may be overconfident but I'd rather have ppl just say: Wow, this is good.
I consider my poems to be good. Not just because I'm 14. Ya know?

When I read the first few comments i practically screamed "What???" I'm 12, and I can't say I'm a great poet. But I can say that it's a bit extreme to ask where these good-younger poets are. On having a seperate award for us, I'd have to say it's a bad idea. Yes, I would love having a chance of winning without competing against poets that have a longer lifetime of writing poetry, but I think the fact we're able to makes us younger-people feel kinda special. However our ability to write poetry, or at least mine, doesn't seem to help me when it comes to writing run on sentances...hmmm

i fully agree. in 14 and iv only just started writing. i compare my self to writers who have been writing for 8 plus years. to introduce an award could be a good thing.. but it would also be bad as if we keep going as it is when younger people get an award it feels really special as you know that you wrote a better poem then someone who has been writing for ages (or a poem that has just been recognized and theres hasnt) but if there was an award for younger people.. you wouldnt get such a big feeling of acomplishment

Im 11. My poems feel dark and I often do wonder about the meaning of life as in my other poems. A lot of people say Im way ahead of my time. Ill be 12 soon, and Im going past time.

Also, this age things getting annoying. Id like to be reconized, but as a writer not as some 11 year old.

  • Robert Spence

Lol tell me about it. I sit and write but darkness just comes out, just something i like writing about. If you're good enough you will be recognised.

  • BrokenREALiTy

Yeah, like Nick said , the whole recognized as a writer and not as a __ year old . I digg that .

Thnx MiNDYY. I really want to be known as a great writer and that is the problem. This whole thing is just about making younger writers more encouraged by giving them awards. I f someone is here they are here to submit a poem to show people how they feel, and being recognized makes them feel better, but your making it just so that they'll be encouraged making them think that your just being nice to them. I'm sorry if I sound rude, but that's just the way it is. Try focusing this disscusion more on what they want then what you want to do for them.

And another thing, put yourself into a younge writers shoes and think about how you'd feel if people pity'd you for writing poems at a young age. I'm not mean, but you gotta think about these things.
