As far as relaxing goes, I'd find someplace that you're really comfortable and lay around. I wouldn't listen to music, because when you're trying to keep your thoughts in your head music doesn't help (it does help make NEW thoughts, but that isn't the problem).

I'd try closing your eyes and writing all over a blank sheet of paper whatever you wanted. It'd at least help you start writing, even if none of it is good. Getting started is sometimes the hardest part (not always -- sometimes getting started is easy and making something worthwhile is the hardest part -- but that's just an element of art).

Often people get stuck trying to refine poetry as they write. They try and get the rhymes right, or find the right words as they go.

This can ruin the flow and stop you getting your ideas and thoughts out. Try free-writing. Just write the ideas and images down, doesnt matter if they're good or you're happy with them, just keep going.

Sometimes this can lead to three or four poems, or you might find a few lines you love but dont use them for years. Alternatively you could end up with lots of useless scribble; it doesn't matter. It's all about creativity, don't stifle it or try and refine it.

That's for the editing stage, 2nd, 3rd and final drafts. :)

Ye-eah. Just write exactly how you're feeling.

Buuut, If that doesn't work. Go somewhere, Inside or outside. Close your eyes. Spin around a couple of times. Open your eyes. And, whatever you see first, write about that. Explain what it looks like, how it feels. Stuff like that.

Ha! Sorry, I said this in a different thread aswell. I just like telling people to spin around lol. But it does work. =)

Try taking a small pocket size notebook with you. Sometimes the poetry is a fleeting thought. You might only need to get the essence of the poem so that you can recall it later.

I get this way alot...wut I usually do is just write wut ever it is that comes into my head. If it is just a word or phrase...once it is on paper then the rest tends to spill out
