I hate to say it but he was only using you to test his relationship with the other girl. He thought he liked her, but had second thoughts, then when he wnet out with you he realized he still loved her, and took her back. Im not saying he might not like you as a friend, but if you try and get in the way of them youll all be miserable. She'll hate you for trying to steal her b/f, He'll hate you for messing it up with his g/f, and you'll be single and have no friends (ok, youll have your other friends, but you catch my drift)
