simple answer to a simple question. Good poems makes a good poet. Doesn't matter how or where or what kind, type, style, or truth or from the heart or not or false. A good poem is a good poem. And good poets have lots of good poems. |

Poeple who diagree with what i believe to me are false poets. i dont care who you are, if you write something false you may be a poet but you havn't ever felt what you are writing, so why write? I dont expect many of you to understand me, reasons already being. Just try to hook onto what it im trying to say. |

Well that's an interesting opinion, but I disagree all the same. I like Cory's answer. |

I would also tend to agree with Cory. If you're a good poet, you don't necessarily have to write what you are feeling, but after the poem is done (if it is good), you certainly should get a good understanding of what said feeling really feels like. |

I think a good poet (writer in general) can write outside themselve, can write about things they never seen, felt, or experienced and bring the thruth of that experience across. Writing from the heart and having to have experienced, felt, what you are writing about is much too over rated. I've written several poems, pieces, from the standpiont of a woman and I am not one, but that fact didn't make them any less effective. In fact, many women would tell you I expressed the topic, thruth, which the piece, pieces focused on rather well, and that they couldn't have said things better themselves. It's how effectively you write, not how personal the experience!!! |

A good editor or the comments that others make help to make a good poet. |

Not true lisa. Think of it this way. There is nothing new under the sun. Every problem or experience in the world today has happened in the past as well, just maybe not with the same specefics. But there is nothing new under the sun. All human have the same emotions. There is no human that has the ability to feel a different emotion than the rest of the humans in the world. Therefore, if you come up with a problem or situation in your poetry or writing, you can merely say, how would I react in this situation and then attribute your reaction (or maybe someone's reaction whom you have seen in that situation) to your poem. And when it is all said and done I bet your would be pretty close. That is just for a writer's point of view. |

i think everyone is a poet.....we all have it in us to write its just some are better at getting what they mean and want out and on to paper wereas others have the whole poem in there head and can read it in there thinking its great but when it comes to writting it down there stumped-they dont know why or how they just know that in there head they can read it and they cant put it on to paper and as they try to they get confused and frustrated very easily so end up giving up-all they need is a little encouragement to get there meanings and words out..... |

Nothing i can do or say will make you any better. Though i believe there are both good and bad poets in this small little world, there's really nothing specific that makes you a good or bad poet. maybe you find that contradictory, maybe you don't. But if you suck, it's because i hate your style. If you don't, i probably liked your style. And the only reason why i would think that you good, is if i envy you. Which in my delusional yet perfect world... that will probably never ever happen. :p |
