anywho how to tell him you'd rather just ahng with your friends just tell him you want to just have fun with your friends and say you wouldn't feel comfortable. just say what your feeling

Your last paragraph sounds like questions you should be asking HIM.

"How can I hang out with him AND my friends, when our friends aren't friends?"

Options:

1. Run back and forth between groups of friends.

2. Have everyone make new friends

3. Hang out with neither

4. Hang out with one group or the other

You pick whichever one suits you, I'm pretty sure those are the only options.

"How can I tell him I don't really want to go to the dance 'with' him, so I can feel more comfortable?"

Well, telling him would obviously involve asking him what you should do about being comfortable. Perhaps now would be a good time to ask about his intentions, and talk about your discomfort.

No problem, hope the dance is fun. Boy I remember my middle school dances...
