Insomnia

Okay. So I know that it probably won't help me to come on a website asking for help, but I'm going to give it a try.

I am an insomniac. I can't get to sleep for EVER sometimes. This would be okay, except for I also get anxiety attacks, where I start getting REALLY afraid and lonely, and then I start bawling my eyes out/sobbing uncontrollably.
I've tried reading, it didn't work.

    Thanks guys.

You need to surround yourself with comforting things. Maybe have a night-light as well? May stop things seeming so scary. And remove anything that could be in slightest bit creepy - porcelain dolls, halloween things, even weird album covers.
If you are reading, read happy things - maybe like a gooey romance of something.
Drink warm milky drinks before going to bed - failing all that, pick up something to help you sleep from the pharmacy, or see your GP. He should be able to recommend some other suggestions - maybe even counseling to help with your anxiety.

Have you gone to a sleep clinic/doctor about your insomnia yet?

This will probably sound REALLY weird but it works for me... If there's a wall next to your bed, put yourself in a really weird possition sort of twisted around and upside down with your legs kind of, Umm... up the wall? if that makes sense. It gives a whole new perspective and helps relieve the anxiety.

    Somber Espirit...

You know what? I used to do that, so I know exactly what you're saying (though it does sound extremely weird...) and I'm going to try it.

I saw the movie The Machinist, about a guy who goes insane after not being able to sleep. I got so worried over not sleeping, I couldn't sleep.

I have a friend that has the exact same problem. He can never get to sleep. I worry about him coz he also doesn't have the best life. He goes to doctors and has pills and everything and it doesn't help. I dont have the problem myself, but i know what it's like when i can't get to sleep for hours on end some nights. i wouldn't know what i would do if i could never get to sleep. i really hope you find a way to help you sleep. Good luck..

YESH, anthor insomniac! Join the club woot!
I've been an insomniac ever since about grade 5 or 6. I guess i've gotten use to it, but it still bothers me sometimes.

I would say pills probably work the best for faster results. But their is a big chance of getting addicted to them.

Umm... For some, music before going trying to sleep works, or taking a long hot shower and having a warm glass of milk.

Their is also this technique I learned last year from one of my teachers. It actually works.

Okay so, close your eyes and breathe, deep breaths. After about a minute. When you breathe in, in your mind think breathe out. And when you breathe out, think breathe in.

If done properly, you can trick your mind into either going to sleep, or having a good nap for a while. My teacher said that he use to do that when he acted. They got taught this technique so that they could feel rested, even if they got no sleep.

It works for me someitmes, give it a try if you'd like.

    Well bye!

ok i know exactly what you mean and well the thing that helps me is listening to my cd player to music i can relate to or if that doesn't work just think yourself to sleep yeah it may be painful i know what it's like but sometimes once you get past thinking about that you'll have tired yourself out may not be the best method though but follow it if ya want and good luck
