People.

okay. WHY do people say this in their profiles:

" my name is blank and I have alot of problems"

"hey I have a really bad life"

I can understand something like " So I have problems and that's why I write, like to get it out."

But why do people just randomly announce that they're "depressed".

Why is it cool these days to pretend you're depressed???
There are some people who actually ARE depressed (I have decided I utterly hate this word) and it probably doesn't help them to have a whole bunch of people running around saying "omg my life is so bad, no one understands"....maybe I'm just a B-WORD but this just makes me so angry. Hope I didn't offend anyone.

This sounds like something that should go in a profile. I'm not sure what sort of responses you'd want, unless you're asking people to simply agree or disagree.

I think too many people use the term 'depressed' too lightly.

  • Eibutsina

I agree Sean they certainly do take the word out of context and use it much too lightly.

"i had a fight with my mum - Im sooooo depressed'

"My boyfriend didn't call me last night - I can't deal with this depression"

    Meh

    Please!

Its pathetic and annoying either seek proper medical help for your chemical imbalance or start to learn what trials life has to throw at you - life was never meant to be easy and its not gunna get any easier - believe me...

^Agree, you may be upset or angry and down, but not DEPRESSED.

    Apathetic Soul, you're absoloutely right.
Yeah, I'm sorry about not really clarifying it...maybe I went a little overboard because I also put it in my profile. Sorry guys, I just got really frustrated. last night (FRUSTRATED. NOT DEPRESSED.)

I've been getting really irritated with the same thing - in fact, I was moaning about it on another board the other day, and I got banned, because I offended too many people.

The truth is though, from what I can gather, those who truely suffer from depression would write, as you said, "I write poetry to help with my depression", why in the world would you advertise it like a new fashion trend across your profile.

Bu how do you think it makes an actual depressed person feel when they are mistaken for someone who isnt. Its an aweful feeling.

  • amandaa

Exactly, Lyla. So a big reason people get mistaken is because there's too many people faking it, or maybe just getting confused about it.

Please dont mock depression people. I lost my father to suicide on the 3rd attempt after i regrettably saved him twice. It is a real thing, believe me.

It's okay to complain every now and then, but claiming you have some thing just to claim you have it isn't right. Especially some thing like depression, it's disrespectful not just to the people living with it right now, but also to the numberless thousands that have died because they had it, and couldn't do anything about it.

"Please dont mock depression people. I lost my father to suicide on the 3rd attempt after i regrettably saved him twice. It is a real thing, believe me."

^ I think I'm about ready to slap someone. Why is it so hard to understand? I have nothing against people who are depressed. I have a problem with people who go around telling everyone, or acting like they are when they're not, or pretending, or thinking it's cool, or making a list of how many problems they have compared to you.
You think you need to tell me depression is real? Think again, I know. Which is my POINT. That people are starting to think it's "trendy" to be depressed, a good look that will get them some popularity and attention.

heh, you can slap me, butterfly, but I've agreed with you all along.

Butterfly, I completely agree! there are like 12 year olds who say they are depressed because they had a fight with their parents. And peole who are "emo" becuase it's cool to be depressed. Like you, I have nothing against -genuinely- depressed people, but feel the people who say they are because they think it's cool are complete time wasters!

My profile needs to read "My mom cares about me too much and she made me get braces...I'm SO FREAKING DEPRESSED!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

It's "emo" music that is doing all this to these kids. They see all these rock stars being "depressed" and that makes it cool!! And most of them LOVE the attention.

  • ღ*KiM*ღ

    ^^ Hahahahaha love it.

But yeah it is these rock stars. And I agree with them loving the attention. They say "I wear black so im not noticed" but then they cover their face in eye liner, and look like hobo's, but they don;t want to be noticed. Yeah. Ok.

Ok seriously, everyone gets down every now and again, but for most people the next day something happens and they are happy again, and that is most defiently not depression. Depression is an imbalance in your brain that causes severe sadness for long, long periods of time. Emo kids that say they are so depressed and cut themselves, or just putting on a show, because I've never seen an emo kid with more than a minor scratch. If they were so depressed they would be doing something more drastic, not just seeking attention.

  • Sean Allen

this has nothing to do with emo kids. just dumb ones. stop making it so specific, the 'flame emo kids' thread already exists, go post there.

yeah, i used to feel all really weird and out of place cos i was OCD, then I found out other people had the same problem, being portrayed better in films, but now everybody is saying that they have symptoms or they might be developing some kind of OCD *bang head*)%&^)_#*^$)_&^_$*$%*(^$&)_+(#@__&+@*%#*@

  • amandaa

Yeah, I'm sorry guys, but sean's right...I didn't start this to complain about Emo's, I can find 6 other threads on here you can do that to. Emo's (as much as I don't like that stereo-type and the people who live it) aren't the only people who advertise their depression (or "depression"). I really appreciate your opinions and stuff, really it's great, but can we..um..sort of..not have an Emo b!tch fest here? (Sorry)

    I want a purple duck.
Maybe my rich friend Francien will get me one for my birthday (along with the Elepahant, Giraffe, combat boots, big fluffy dress, cookies, and...).
Thanks for not getting mad at my lame-caps lock-ness.

    Also, this makes me happy.
