If you are diagnosed with clinical depression will your doctor not perscribe you medication if you are under legal age?

You need parental consent to start taking stuff, I think. I could totally be wrong, but I'm almost positive that you can get medication, I just don't know what level of parent involvement there is.

Ifyou're under the age of 16 you are still a minor , so your parents will have to be involved.

I dont know if you parents would have to be involved or not, because with birth control, it doesnt matter what age you are, you can get it and your parents do not have to be informed, but i dont know if it is the case for all types of drugs.

Hm, well a year ago when I was going through my horrible stage that I go through every so often lol, the doctor told my Mom I would need them because they would really help, my Mom consulted my counsellor on it and she agreed with the doctor. But my Mom couldn't pull herself around to doing it; she thought I would overdose or something. -Rolls eyes.- . But I think you have to have parental consent, but I don't know really..

you need to be careful with anti depressants I found some of the side effects almost worst than the depression itself. Anxiety paranoid and funny enough a leg that wouldn't stop shaking, now thats embarrissing lol

My advice would make sure your doctor doesn't just prescribe without covering all the possible effects

    Good luck everyone

Anti Depressants aren't so bad. I was on anti-depressants, Anti-Psychotics, Sedatives, and Tic medication all at once.. So I know a thing or two about meds.
The most common one is Fluoxetine (Prozac) Generally you start with one tablet then if things are too bad its increased to two.
Where I am, they had to ask my parents permission, and mine, before giving me the drugs. Usually the only way you can be forced to have them is if you're on a section.
I guess they probably would have to tell your parents..

But also, if you're just seeing your GP, don't let them fob you off with medication, get them to put you in touch with a councellor, sometimes meds aren't neccessary and talking to a mental health professional works better.
