"Freedom Of Speech"

I'm talking about being able to express your opinions on delicate topics such as politics without having some kind of consequence and backfire. Other than that, yes we do have freedom.

*sigh* You're not getting my point. I KNOW that already.

The only way freedom of speech can backfire is if we abuse our right by using violence. We have the freedom to voice our opinions. It would backfire if you took your thoughts on a matter and started a riot.

Freedom of speech is a myth. How many of you are actually aware of that?

Because if you believe that ALL speech is free you believe that so so so SO many despicable things should be vocalized in a free and simple manner that the truly wicked amongst us have a platform for their hatred and perversions.

With a freedom of speech comes a responsibility to society. And however you define society, some simple rules towards its progress in this time can be applied, and one of those is that where the common good of a group of individuals is compromised with inappropriate speech, free speech is not necessarily a good thing in that instance.

As I compose this I can think of some truly nasty examples that would include disgusting profanities and shocking blasphemies. But I don't and won't write them. And I avoid doing this because I am a responsible person, who values and understands the freedoms I am permitted.

"They are protected under the right to freedom of speech."

Which is why freedom of speech doesn't work. As I put it to a friend of mine who is all for "freedom of speech": If neo-Nazis want to organize a march down your street and shout their racist slogans, that's OK because it's freedom of speech. But if you then found that some neighbours took their stance and leafleted the area in order to further the message, how would that make you feel? And being of mixed-race ancestry she agreed that she'd feel isolated and violated by it. And to me, anything that violates the individual who observes the laws of the country and leads an inoffensive life is inherently anti-social.

Freedom of speech does not work in the best interests of the progress of society. It only serves to make us think we are more "free" than we actually are.

I think most people on this site confuse freedom of speech with common courtesy and basic to honest good manners.

    I'm serious....?

Freedom of speech is fine as long as your free speech does not inhibit the freedom of other people to be verbally safe from assualt and discrimination. nOW ARE YOU HAPPY Edwardo?

Go back to bed P and Q, the mods have figured it out, go back to bed P and Q, we understand how it all transpired. Here, here's a chat room, go there, watch repititive poorly typed conversations for hours on end, here's two rooms of this stuff, here's ratings and stupid comments, here's threads asking questions about important life decisions you are supposed to make for people, here's word games my dog would find boring.

    GO BACK TO BED.

Well, if you're loaded you can get away with just about anything you want to.
