Bush is declaring war on North Korea!?!?!?!

  • Kevin

I think bush needs people to fight in this war, people who agree to kill other people for money, called soldiers by some, hired killers/idiots/governments dogs by others.

It's the American people who are fighting for bush, they are the only ones who can stop war...by....NOT FIGHTING FOR HIM!

Kinda arrogant of Bush to talk to anyone about not using bombs eh?

  • Ed or Ian Henderson

I believe that North Korea has as much right as any other political administration to develop and test missiles, and I believe they have as much right to develop nuclear weaponry...

In that I don't think ANYONE has that right: ESPECIALLY countries where poverty and suffering should be a priority. What's sickening is that more often than not the civilians most affected by funds being diverted from social programmes to arms programmes think (as a result of propaganda) that their nation having these weapons is a GOOD idea!

I hate the recent US administrations for the way their nation has become perceived by the poorer (and more socialist) countries of the world. This continued "Follow Or Die" right wing neocon approach to world affairs by the Bush administration is going to lead the world to considerably more dead than either WW1 or WW2. And I don't want my kids going off to die under a foreign sun in the name of oil and power.

    Wake up America.

"This continued "Follow Or Die" right wing neocon approach to world affairs by the Bush administration is going to lead the world to considerably more dead than either WW1 or WW2."

I agree about the right wing neocon approach comment, in that I dislike the current administration's attitude toward foreign affairs. However, I don't think that there will be any war that the USA will be involved in that will result in the number of casualties that occurred in WW1 or WW2 unless it involves massive nuclear warfare, which is even more unlikely than everyone in America suddenly becoming reasonable. The public no longer has the stomach for the kind of war WW1 and WW2 is. Now that we have reports and live news covering the wars, a single video of marines being mowed down is enough to make us end everything. There've been casualities in Iraq, but they won't get anywhere close to the sort of death that occurred in either of the world wars.

  • Mel

America shouldn't get involved this time. Why not let Blair and Britain sort this one out! Plus we're out of Korea's firing range. So I say: hey oh let's go.

Bush wont declare war on N. Korea. N. Korea has no oil.'
Bush will try to form trade sanctions against N.Korea.
China wont agree to this. Embargos or trade sanctions usually involve mass starvation and lack of medicine. Punishing and killing thousands of innocent people. Like They did to Cuba. Cuba had the U.S.S.R.
    N. Korea has China.
The United States and China's relation will intensify.
    N. Korea spends a lot of money on weaponry and preparing for war while their poor go hungry and homeless? So does the US of Britain!

  • Ed or Ian Henderson

OK ChatBot (ahh, the days of IRC...) the trade sanctions you refer to will be a UN action. or rather an INaction. Veto powers will prevent any serious sanctions against North Korea, and rightly so. I have never understood how punishing the ordinary citizens of dictatorships achieves anything other than an immediate hatred of what are invariably perceived as additional oppressors.

As for the US of Britain: While we may be oppressive in a vastly different way, our poor hardly go hungry and homeless in a significant capacity. I don't think they have a North Korean Big Issue magazine!

What do you mean North Korea has China? China isn't like N.Korea At all

  • Angie

Bush declared that their wouldn't be a war. Didn't he say that their going to try and solve this issue by diplomacy? It was requested by China. China being a super power has great economic and manufacturing trades with the US. Yet, they have historical bonds with North Korea.

Can you imagine what would happen if China supported North Korea? It would mean that Bush could cut off trades with them, thus resulting in major money loss for the Chinese. The U.S. could just jump in any Euopean countires and set up trades their. Though its very unlikely that China would make a decision like that. Ugh, wow, am I confused. Am I right about any of this so far?

If North Korea does infact create a nuclear missle and launch them, couldn't the U.S. intercept them. I mean they'd see it on their radar's right away. With all those satelites they have up in space.

America needs to open their eyes.

Another thing, does anyone know where China is currently standing on this?

    --Angie xoxo

EDIT: Yes, I do know that the missle's were launched yesterday but on the news it was said that China requested they talk this over diplomatically. So the U.S., China, North Korea, Japan, and Russia would get together sit down and 'talk' this out. So far their has been no success.

  • LadyPearl

I don't know too much about this. But I was born in China and know that China doesn't like war. They prefer to stay neutral. If they aren't, they do things secretly. And by the way, just something extra, China's not really a communist country anymore.

And yes^ Practically everything I see in stores are made in China. If we cut off trade, we will suffer in a way as well

  • Chris

Taking military action in North Korea would lead to immediate war with China.

Anyone really think that the USA is going to take over China's backyard? It didnt work during the Korean War, it wont happen now.

The only reason North Korea exists as a separate political entity is because in the early ’50s, when UN forces had virtually overrun all of North Korea, China sent a huge army that flung us back south.

Imagine the Chinese invading Cuba. It won't happen without US intervention.

Cutting through all the diplomatic niceness, here’s what we undoubtedly said to them:

“You’re the ones who kept us from getting rid of the Kim dictatorship 50 years ago. So now it’s your responsibility either to take away their nukes, or get rid of the Kim government and replace it with a sane one.”

To which the Chinese almost certainly replied, “Perhaps we can work something out. You can take the first step by withdrawing all military support from Taiwan. After all, why should we be responsible for North Korea, which isn’t part of China, while you won’t let us take responsibility for Taiwan, which is an integral part of China?”

Our reply: “We will not discuss Taiwan.”

Their reply: “Then we will not discuss North Korea.”

Our reply: “All right. Since you have allowed North Korea to develop and build nuclear weapons, while we have prevented the much-more-technologically-advanced South Koreans from doing so, we have no choice but to level the playing field so that North Korea will not be able to threaten our allies.”

    Those options would include:

    (1) Stationing tactical nuclear weapons in South Korea ... with the option of placing them under the control of the South Koreans.

    (2) An embargo – or even a blockade – of North Korea’s ports, so that China becomes the sole supplier of all goods to North Korea.

    (3) Holding China economically responsible by cutting back – or cutting off – trade between the US and China.

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/822606/posts

We put Nukes in S. Korea, one of 3 things can happen:
    1) Nuclear war
    2) Disarmament of both Koreas through trade deals, economic sanctions etc.
    3) another version of the cold war.

Uh yeah... anyone here actually read reuters? It's going to take 10-15 years for North Korea to master the missile technology they are TESTING (as opposed to putting into operational capability).

These missile tests are a complete boon for INDIA as it poses missile defense questions to defend them from Pakistan. If North Korea manages to get the systems working effectively it could harbour a span of peace between Pakistan and India... or at least make Pakistan think twice about the crap they have been pulling.

Japan called for sanctions... six way sanctions.

    US backed up this call.

    China and Russia didn't.

Mainland USA is reachable, if you call the western skirt of Alaska US Mainland.

If we (and I mean the UN) go to war it will be a very different affair than that of Iraq. There will be no peacekeeping effort afterwards.

The only thing we have to worry about is China, but not for another 15-20 years.

It's a lot of hot air, Kim Jong Il wants six way talks. It's a gaurantee for the survival of his country because China will be involved. Not even he is irrational enough to condemn his own country to storm of Tomahawks.

Stop belieing the hype you see on tv. Bush is honour bound to talk hot air for the sake of his people as is Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe of Japan. I suggest folks start reading Reuters and the BBC if they are inclined to get their information from the internet.

    You're mis-reading what I am saying.

TV news, especially in America is designed to make the most exciting story to keep you watching. They make money by having you watch so they have to keep you hooked.

ABC, FOX, CNN MSNBC, they're all the same, they give a point of view on events rather than reporting on them. Go to reuters.com or bbc.co.uk and see what they have to say on the situation.

There's no need to get defensive, you're smart, you want to be informed and inform others. That's more than I can say for a lot of people here.

    On China:

China is at the forefront of political and socio-economic development. It is not only a large scale user of fossil fuel (you see no one complaining about their nuclear programme) and steel (they use the largest percentage of recycled metals in the world) but it is leading the way in developing itself as a nation that encourages personal growth through personal achievement. Yes, that's right: you've all read about their sports programmes and suchlike, but they apply a simple belief that if someone has an idea that might benefit China: listen to them.

OK it's a nation of disappearing outspoken voices and mysterious car and 'plane accidents but what China cannot afford to do right now is piss off the USA. China does NOT want to be the new USSR when it can quite happily sit back and watch the USA squander its tax dollars away on warring with the poor of the middle east.

If you think that China would involve itself in a global conflict when it has the capacity to be the most economically powerful nation in the world at the expense of the CURRENT most powerful: you're fooling yourself.

  • Steven Beesley

^^^China also has the largest amount of large multi-nationals and manufacturers setting up camp and factories to spin out their products to sell at high prices in the west.

China will not aggravate the USA, wrong, it will just tolerate the USA. Chinese do not go poking their noses everywhere and into other people's business or provoke and start up fights that they can't finish or manage. Do you think it pays attention to the USA when they have something to say about China???

China is set to the "The" emerging power in this century and afraid to say the USA will lose it's place.

And those Cruise Missiles! turning corners, stopping at red lights, letting old ladies cross the road, saying 'have a nice day', moving on another hundred miles and then Bang! accurate within an inch of the target. Now that's tv!

What have I got at the minute? I've got all your f**king repeats, America!! Sinefeld, Columbo, Friends (for the thousanth time), Mi-fu**ing-ami CSI, the list goes on. What I want is some more reality war horror shows that your so good at delivering. I pay my licence fee for christ sake!

Anyone old enough to remeber what it was like to be a child/teenager in the 80s?

I was an air cadet from the age of 14 to 18, and I had it drilled into me how evil Russia was, how they would destroy the western world at a moment's notice, and it was imperative that we build more and more nuclear weapons in order to be able to wipe them out. They all hated us, they all wanted to kill us.

America just needs somebody to hate; permanently. I mean no offence to you American individuals: you were just born there. But I honestly think America looks at itself (politically) now and thinks "Well, we were late to the fray on two global occasions, costing the lives of millions. Maybe from now on we have to be there to get the first kick in, rather than stand by and be judged harshly by the world."

Of course, it's not like that really. The world really isn't a giant game of Risk, and the end result isn't putting the pieces away and closing the box.

The WORLD is against North Korea testing missiles because Kim Jong Il is exactly the kind of psycho nut nut who would use them against neighbouring countries, like JAPAN, who made the call for sanctions against them following the tests... I say again, JAPAN, not USA. The USA will support Japan as have many other countries throughout the world.

i dont really understand why we kill each other
we ment to help each other there are children dying around the world because they have nothing to eat and all the government is doing find new weaponds of how to kill, inocent people are dying out there while we enjoying ourself i think there should be an end to all this war and all live in peace at the end of the day we all humans and all live together in ONE WORLD

  • Ed or Ian Henderson

We kill each other to make way for more of our own people. People who, in time, become people we don't much like, so we kill them off and substitute them with more people of ours. But sometimes we don't kill enough people, and where there's no food we can't keep those people we're not killing alive. So they die anyway.

But the key thing about killing people now is it costs a lot of money because the weapons are so cool and the uniforms look good in movies: and that means there's not much money to help the people who aren't getting killed but have no food.

It would be so much simpler to just hand out condoms and food worldwide, show people a video of their future featuring The Four Horsemen at work, and just not bother staging any more wars.

But that wouldn't make good TV. Unless it was, like, a huge reality TV show hosted by a Lederhosen-wearing Bill Clinton and Jenna Jameson.

Althought Bret it may not be JUST Bush's fault( even though i'd say it is)... what about iraq? iran... how many countries does Bush WANT to rule? Somebody needs to pull him off his high horse and show him that shooting fear into other countries is NOT going to stop them... they WILL come back (just like Germany did against Europe when they started WW2...because of the Treaty of Versallies forced on them after WW1, if anyone knows history)

And as for the twin towers... it was wrong, it ruined a LOT of lives but America has ruined and killed more people by seeking revenge!

However, with the starving kids issue... maybe they should start advertising -for just $2 a day, help to bring in condoms across to all those countries where kids are dying...thats the biggest problem, they have no contreception so they breed like rabbits causing a whole new stream of starving kids.. its a pitty but thats whats causing the problem.

  • Bret Higgins

What has Bush done to provoke terrorist attacks, induce missile testing in North Korea and cause nuclear development in Iran?

You're smart and show knowledge of world history, but it takes more than one person to ruin the world. Saying this is all Bush's fault is like saying all Germans (from civilians to the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe and Kriegesmarine) between 1936 and 1945 were nazis. It's a generalisation beyond belief. Germany rose as an economic power in spite of the treaty because all other routes were cut off to them. Not being able to put on the table is a great motivator.

It's not about rule, it never has been. It's about securing a stable environment throughout the world. Iraq has its own government and has requested that allied forces stay in-situ until they can get established. Bush has no say on the political goings on in Iraq.

Would you be happy to trust Iran to develp nuclear power, knowing they intend to use the process to create weapons grade uranium?

Would you be happy to trust Kim Jong Il to develop long range missile technology when you know he's just the kind of psycho-nut-nut* who would use them in an offensive capability?

Would you be happy to ga back in time, put Saddam back in power and allow to continue the rape of his people? Sure, the intel may have been wrong but less soldiers have been killed in three years in Iraq than were killed in 3 hours on 9/11.

As for revenge... As shown in Northern Ireland, are you going to defend your people or let the minority trample over your country? You stand up and let terrorists know that what they do has dire consequences lest it encourage them to continue.

Talks will have to happen but you have to show terrorists that what they doing will not work first. Australia is a valid target. They have troops in Iraq and helped plan the intial invasion. They are a democracy, a land of freedom. So when your home town, Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra is flattened by some anonymous terrorist attack we'll see what you think about responding to terrorism is.

This is a scamble to control the means of production and the most profitable commodity used in capitalism, Oil.

America has had it's share of the playing field, and now, instead of passing the ball like it should, it is running wildly away from it's team for a touchdown, and it won't make it, and if it does, it won't have a team left to play any more games.

Britain had the ball, and America took it when we ran out of running power, China will most likely take the ball next, unless there is a pitch invasion.

  • Ed or Ian Henderson

"What has Bush done to provoke terrorist attacks?"

Well there's his continued propping up of the Israeli regime. And yes I'm well aware of the political forces at play there as well as the terrorist/freedom fighter quandary... I'm not that blind! Oh, and then there's the increase in insurgent activity in Iraq which has stemmed from a prolonged US military presence in places that Imams had been promised would be freed from violence and terror.

And what we must remember about Bush is he is not just "one man". He is a puppet with many powerful masters. And can be manipulated in curious and bloody manners, as demonstrated here:
