Sorted like soup cans...

Hi... I'd just like to talk about labels. Who here believes in them and why, and who here doesn't like labels and think they belong on soup cans?

Why are we put in all of these little boxes, labeled and stamped with the same groups...? They're like cans after the can opener has emptied everything out...

Some people love their labels for whatever reason. Others are hurt by being misjudged. What's your side? Are you neutral?

I don't believe in labels... I can't stand being called emo or goth or prep/ whatever else they can mix into the soup... sooner or later it's all going down the drain.

I like one label though: Unique. It's probably my favorite next to "Labels are for soup cans!"

I make it my point to look different at school, act different, and not separate from my friends because of differences.

So the "preps" like fashion, gossip, and are super-happy. All of them should go to cheerleading tryouts. Right? Wrong. They're just into that kind of stuff.

"Gothic" people love black and red, cut themselves, and cuss a lot... they all like it, right? Wrong. Just because they seem to "hate" everything does not make them satanist or w/e.

"Emo." Loves and writes poetry, cries themselves to sleep, and loves to self harm -- they turn on their music.. They're just a little sad, and who can blame someone for being sad if they're having a rough time?

"Punk." Likes to dye their hair and plays the guitar. Sings for their gf outside of their window... right? Touching and sweet. Might be a skater... not everyone likes being punk. Especially when their moms find out!

These aren't even all of them. When people find out what to call the "Unlabeled soupcans".. there will be even more stereotypes...

~Consider yourself warned... don't fall into these traps...

We.. being all people are processed and packaged and labled because there are people out there that fear difference.

I guess what i am trying 2 say is that these lables are allocated to certain people because they fit to the category like if we get a girl: shes pretty but b#@!*y and she is automatically considered a popular chick because she is head strong and thinks she is above every one else.

Then if we get another girl: shes pretty but shy and likes to do her school work. She automatically FITS the roll of a geek.

Were put under these labels because were trying to make sense of things that we dont understand. Like someone who inflicts self harm there assumed to be Goth or Emo but does any1 take the time to talk 2 these people and ask them why there the way they are. No because they have been given that label and every one is just happy to leave it the way it is and not ask questions.

This is really where u should consider whether u want people to think that you are mean and hostile if you are popular or if you want people to cross the street when they see you. Whereas in reality all these people with different "labels" can be your friends.

Everyone on this earth wether your Goth, popular, a geek or anything else we all fall under one categorie...
WERE HUMAN... Deal with it, except it but please dont reject it.

I don't really see the problem with labeling, if you don't like it, ignore it; But it's never going to stop. Judging is human nature. And if the people choose to join the herd like all the other people coincidentally exactly the same as them, we label them. It's stupid if people let it get to them. But that's my opinion.x

"I don't really see the problem with labeling, if you don't like it, ignore it"

    Seconded!

What does it really matter? I label people everyday, and they label me, and I don't care. Like I was saying on the 'emo and goths' thread, we all label people, whether we notice it or not, which makes a lot of people hyprocrites when they're saying labels are stupid.

    * Some people will not give money to the homeless, because they assume it'll be spent on alcohol.

    * We'll all look at the pretty girl wearing designer gear, and assume she must be rich or spoilt - how do we know she hasn't saved up for months for that outfit. Has anyone asked her?

    * You see a group of teenagers, wearing typical "chav" outfits, hanging outside a shop - don't you get even the slightest bit nervous that they might say or do something to you.

    * When I think of racism, I think of white people attacking different races - what about black people being racist against white people?

These are only minor examples, but this is the sort of labelling all of us do everyday. And everyone really does do it. That's why it's best to get on with it, afterall, it'll never stop.

Anyway, I think you're [not aimed at anyone in particular] a very weak person if you let someone putting you in a category gets to you.

^^ I agree. Not everyone likes labeling, but everyone does it at some point or another.

Labels can define us but we can define us, too.
