Poetry needed for my upcoming book!

    Hi-

I'm in the process of writing a book. I need 50 poems that deal with custody and divorce to include in my book. The focus of this book will mostly be on the children affected by this painful process. I'm hopeful that my book will help others to stop and reflect on the decisions we as parents make and how it affects the children involved.

The title of my book will be called, "Mommy, when will it end". This poem is about my 7 year-old daughter. You can find it in the "Friends... Family" section on this website.

Have any poems I could consider for my book? Please share!

Thank you so much for that. Is it taken from an experience of someone who truly went through this or is it a non-fiction poem?

    Can I e-mail you?

If so, my e-mail is... sweetshangurl@hotmail.com

I have a poem called, "Postpartum Deport," but I'm weary about it being plagiarized...sorry.

hey - so, are you saying you have one but wouldn't be interested in having it published in my book?

I'd be happy to give you all the details of the book and what the goal/hopes of this book are if you're interested.

    Let me know, okay?

Hey - thanks for offering the "Serve The Servants" poem. I do love that one.

I am needing non-fiction poetry taken from real life experiences of those who have gone through divorce and custody matters themselves... namely... the children.

    Thanks for you response though!

    Are you kidding me?

The divorce of Kurt Cobain's parents is what fueled him to write the way he did. He felt ashamed and despised his parents for their lack of "normal family love". If you can, look up online how the divorce messed with the mind of Kurt Cobain. It is a horrible story.

Thanks so much. I didn't know much about him at all. This poem probably already has a copyright to it... but... I will certainly check it out.

Thanks again for keeping me informed...

Wow, yeah, that's really interesting. cool. Probably also why he would tend to want to stay in even the most damaging relationships. and seek drugs as an escape...

yeah, well, here's my "Nobody Says 'I Love You'" which pretty much just gives an overview of my feelings and probably the feelings of anyone who has been a child of divorce, the sense of a kind of jaded hopefulness, hopeful cynicism?:

and I guess my recent contest poem, "Give Me Pumpkin Pie, Or Give Me Death!" about the awkwardness of Thanksgiving without the whole family...in my usual cute, and calm, but still rather bitter tone:

    Hi Drew -

Honestly, my most hopeful intentions and outcome of this book is for it to reach the hearts of many parents going through child custody battles. I'm hopeful after reading real life situations, they will stop and reflect on how the way they handle the situation... truly affects the children for better or for worse.

I will be donating part of the proceeds to Oregon Legal Aid. Any other proceeds will help myself as a single mom not to struggle financially so much.

All those offering poetry for the book will receive full credit for their poem. It will NOT be copyrighted. If you so choose, your name and photo will appear in the book. You will receive a complimentary copy of the book. As far as receiving money, that unfortunately is not an option. If I gave a portion of the proceeds from my book to all 50 poets and also Oregon Legal Aid... It would not benefit my children and I. I would also not have the option to stop the financial struggle I deal with now as a single mother of three.

    Make since???

I can send you more details via e-mail about the book should you be interested in hearing more....

    Thanks,

    ~Shannon

I wrote it when my parents were close to beaking up, and didn't remember the special occasions anymore, just didn't care, didn't celebrate.

Thanks to all of you for you generosity! I've realized I need to have something legally written for everyone to sign before using the poems. This way we are all protected. You will receive full credit for your poetry in my book. So... long story short - I am waiting to have things wrapped up with my attorney before going further. Should be soon. In the meantime I am keeping note of all of your beautiful poems. I'll get back with you soon!
