Out of sheer boredom, I decided to make this post.

What is your general impression of America, and its people?

    Juuust curious

Here's a better question to ask yourself EOB: would I have posted this if JPM was still around?

Im an Englishman living in America and I like far better.

The people are more friendly, you don't have to be in a clique to have a conversation. People accept you far more readily, it is cleaner, the cost of living is lower and there is more room.

Don't get me wrong, I love England, it's just most of the people in it that bugger it up.

I've been to America on several occasions, and to describe the American people and way of life as any one particular way is madness.

The most amazing place I've been is Minnesota-St. Paul, which was quite simply the nicest city I have ever visited. The people were incredibly friendly and the pre-skyscraper architecture was very European. They also have the most excellent breakfast places. And everything Bret said is true of the MSP natives: a very friendly bunch of people. I'd recommend anyone to visit there.

Conversely I despised Florida. I found it (Fort Lauderdale, mainly) to be dirty and expensive, and the people were a stark contrast to MSP's "winter warmth". Having said that, my parents and sister have a vacation home near Kissimmee and they say the people there are really friendly and helpful.

Mind you, I was in Florida working rather than vacationing, and it was the time of the Columbia disaster, and I know it deeply affected everyone. Strange time.

I've not been to America, and doubt I will for some time. It's a long way to travel and I don't think my little girl would last that long on a plane! It's hard enough getting her to sit still etc on a 2 hour flight *eek*

Americans as people are just like all other people across the world. They have their cultures, history, accent, multi races... The list could go on. They're no different from the way everyone else is. On the fact that I haven't been to America, and have only been to France, Spain and Portugal... I would say I love Europe best. Until I go to America or anywhere else other than Europe for that matter, I don't have any other place to like really :D

huh...I have never been to America myself, but I want to go there some day...

    Any places I should avoid?

    America has everything possible, almost.

I've never been there, but everyone i've spoken to says that it's an amazing place, full of the most extreme examples of everything, in people, places and.....general quality.

Hard to sum up such a place. Better to ask about a specific area.

yeah...i`ve heard people saying that the differences between the various states may be just as big as the differences between the countries of Europe...

    HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

Ismail, that is, WITHOUT doubt, the single most close minded thing I have ever read on this site.

    Get a clue son, seriously.

Personally, having not been to America, I am biased for Europe! There is so much diverse culture and ways of life and I find it amazing! I'm sure this is probably the same in America but I wouldn't know! I don't really think that you can compare a continent with 30 + coutries in it to a country so hmmmm....
