Something New!!---Please Try It Out---

I've thought of something besides a title contest, but I don't know if this is a good idea or not so I'm going to try it!

You write a short story [so its not long!!!!] and then at the end of it you write a haiku summarizing it. A haiku is a poem consisting of three lines that don't rhyme. The first line is five syllables, the second line is seven, and the last line is five. The challenge of the haiku is bringing the emotion and power in the story and condensing it into three short lines---

Since some people are better at writing certain types of poems than others and some people are better at writing short stories than others I'm allowing two people to work together and do both parts as long as you make sure to include both names on the top of the short story/poem you submit---If you choose to do a collaboration know that the reward if you win will be split between the two---

    Requirements:
    ~It's your own work (obviously)

You may have profanity in the haiku/short story if you wish---

    I will judge on:
~whether the haiku format is correct
~the emotion portrayed in both parts
~Correct grammar and spelling [I'm not going to be super strict on this-I just don't want for example all the ''I''s in a story being ''i'']
~whether the haiku is summarizing the key parts in the story and has power and depth
~And how unique the story is [this isnt a big part of my judging, but I dont want a take off on the ''The Three Little Pigs'']

Also, please have a title for the short story and for the haiku [the titles can be the same or different]

    Rewards:
    1st place--5 r/r/c (for a collaboration 3 r/r/c each)
    2nd--3 r/r/c (for a collaboration 2 r/r/c each)
    3rd--2 r/r/c (for a collaboration 1 r/r/c each)
    For trying!--1 r/r/c (for a collaboration 1 r/r/c each)

Thank you so much if you choose to try this and good luck!!

    My Forest, My Everything

I watched it burn. The flames licking at the wood, ferociously hungry. The smoke flew up making a grey cloud of hot vapour and carbon flood the sky. That was my home, my childhood, my life. Gone. Each tree, every leaf. It was my place, no matter where I’d been or what I would do, it was there. My comforter, my shelter, my heart. The rain poured relief on the ashes, the ruins, but it was already too late...
It was gone. But not forever...

    Reborn

    The charcoal forest.
Life licked from mother nature's hand,
    Until its reborn...

Interesting contest. Hope this is ok =) Hope more people enter.

    ~Alone~

The tears that fall upon this page will no sooner dry than the ink with which I have penned my soul. The ink with which I have written words that only vaguely describe the pain inside. The emptiness I feel as the young men and women around me are tucked into bed. I wait eternally for the warmth brought on by a mother's touch or the gentle hand of a father gliding across my back. I wait for the words I long to hear. I love you...

    ~My Mountain~

    Climb up my mountain.
Please, come sit and talk with me.
    I am all alone.

lol mines pretty dumb but it came out i didn't even know what i was typing.:D

    The Night Grows Dark

It was a dark night, as I sat alone in my home. The rain began to pour down in buckets, as the splashes from each drop hit the street outside. The darkness made me nervous so I turned on the light above, when I turned and saw a man standing outside behind the sliding glass door. I screamed and ran for the phone as the door opened. He walked over to me, and grabbed me. I smelled the cologne, and realized it was my friend, silly me, how could I be so dumb as to forget I invited him over.

    Run

    Rain pouring down hard.
So dark, a man stands, I run.
    Silly me a friend.

I'll be judging sometime this week so if anyone else wants to test this contest out, now is the time--

I've read all the short stories/haiku already submitted and all of them are amazing! It's going to be really hard to judge from such a great selection.

    The Dreamer

If you tell the dreamer to scream, he just may scream. But what if he no longer can? No longer wants to or thinks (perhaps knows) no one can hear. What then, will our screaming dreamer do?
We are the dreamers of reality. No matter how much one screams, they will never be heard. I now dare this dreamer to be heard. Scream loud, I dare you. Cry your heart out dreamer. Just see how many really care as much as they say. I dare you dreamer.
    I. F**king. Dare. You.

    To Be Heard

    Our Dreamer Will Scream,
    Will He Be Silently Heard,
    Cry Out Dreamer, Cry...

I WOKE UP IN A CAR

Oh, my, that was fun. I never felt so free. Walking along South Beach at 4 a.m. without a care in the world. Lovely escapist fantasies make up for the obvious fact that, oh, shit, I have no idea what I'm doing. Traveling with the strangest strangers. I will lose them soon. Last night I found out that they're not the best people, but they were nice for awhile. I did nothing wrong. I have no regrets. I pay the money that I owe, what you wanted me for, and leave. We're not going to change the world like we thought we would. We just changed ourselves. You're half-baked ideals are blowing smoke, while you're trying to drive. I say a secret prayer to a god I don't believe in, that we survive, or you crash. Atleast maybe then you'll learn your lesson. Have I learned anything?

    Petty cash for friends.

    Pentagram

The strangest thing I thought. Maybe I could end this madness inside me and then leave this forever? Could that be it?
I opened a window, but only to find it shut again. No it can't be, but I'm fighting it. I opened it again, but it slammed onto my fingers holding them clamped without movement. I was screaming my voice bleeding into the room. Hurting my ear drums.

A woman arrived and pulled me from the window, but I couldn't stop screaming. I had to, I was so scared. I then pushed her away as she started to turn into the monster that haunts me. She came closer and I pulled a knife from my pocket.

"Come any closer and I'll kill you!" I screamed.

    But she was already dead.
I opened my drawers and picked up the black box with a pentagram burnt into the timber. I took six crystals and formed a circle around her then lit one black candle, to extinguish the beast, then seven white, to purify her soul to the gates of heaven.

Before I could utter the incantation several beasts came in and spilt the candles. The wax spilt over the floor and the flame escaped onto my drawing pad.

The room burst into flames. The monsters were gone, but I was trapped inside. I fell to the floor and spluttered. The smoke was trapping it's self in my lungs. I stopped breathing when I felt the heated fire envelope my body. Scolding my skin into a carcass.

All that was found in the investigation was the wooden box with the piece of paper inside.

    "Vanquish The Beast"

    "Bound the beasted tomb,
    No more tormenting, to end,
    Send him now to death."

    Hope this is ok
    bit long I guess
    =P
    thanks

Ok, I have the results!! Just to let everyone know it was really hard to choose which ones I like the best because all of you did such a great job-- Thank you so much for participating in this contest-I enjoyed reading all the short stories and haikus. I will be reading, rating, and commenting on poems sometime this week; it may take me a while to get them all done. Everyone gets at least one rating and comment for participating.

    Thanks again!
