Down voting

I'm not sure if any one else suffers from the dreaded 'down voter' but I find very annoying how some people vote and don't give you a reason...or maybe not a very good reason.

I'd just like to say if your going to vote reasons would be much appreciated because my rating has fallen to a 4.6 rather then my regular 4.8 because of this voting pattern.

I'd love to readd your views on this subject so please post.

the voting system needs to just be removed from this site because it's abused so often. really though your rating shouldn't matter. make your poetry for yourself and as long as your happy with your work and improvement over time then it's all good. but really in two years do you think it will matter to you what your rating was on a poetry site? it really won't matter then and it shouldn't matter to you know. write poetry to write poetry, don't write it for votes, comments and attention.

I've said elsewhere, but a vote should only ever be accompanied by a reasonable comment. I am sure I'm not alone in using sites like Amazon.com or Ebuyer.com, and there if you leave a review of a product you have to leave a rating and a comment. If it's a BS comment they tend to remove it. And I think that's what should happen here.

Frankly I would rather see comments for my stuff. Votes are nice, but they're not a huge deal. I'm confident that I'm a reasonable poet and it's nice to see my votes hovering around a "4.0" but it's not going to break my heart if I find someone thinks I'm a "2".

In the short time I have been here I have seen some of you get very heated about "downvoting" where it's clear a poem that has received a number of "5" votes has been given something like a 3 or a 4 several times. And on at least two occasions I've looked at the poem and though "Yep, I'd say this was 'fair' at best'". But I've been (cruel to be) kind enough to explain WHY I voted how I did.

I think a lot of people are a bit quick to hand out fives and others are a bit quick with the ones out of spite.

Thanks for your comments and everything.

Hmm I guess I am a bit too conscious of votes theres probably a reason.

    Thank you for your time.
    Quite valued.

Emma Its Ok To Feel That Way, Votes To Me Is Just Not Necisarry, To Be Honest I'm a Comment Fan! If I Would Get More Comments Than Votes I Would Be Just As Thrilled If Not More, Because I'd Like To Know About Someones Opinion Of My Poetry Rather Than Their Ratings, I Think Thats How You Feel To, You Just Want The Opinion Over The Bad Vote...Instead Of 100 1.0's Without Them Stopping To Say Why Your Poetry Puts a Sour Taste In Their Mouth xoxo-Nikki-xoxo

I have my first 3.9 on a poem (and I suspect it will decrease further still). I'm really proud of it though, as it does reflect the poems worth more than anything else I've written.
It's a poem that hasn't meaninglessly been voted up, for a change.

It's that opening stanza, I reckon. But I've held off voting, so far. Go on, change it. I dare you. :-)

I agree with Angelina Taylor. The voting system IS BS.

so if i were you, i'd just not listen to what people think about me. oh yeahh.. and i have been down voted. It does suck but i'm just like.. "ookay. they suck." haha.

    love always, Jessica.

No, I'm serious. There are more poems on this website horribly upvoted than are poems downvoted, and I think if more of you were honest you'd admit it.

Last night I read through a poem that I had to take in 3 times before I finally gave up. It was allegedly "freeform" but no matter how you read it, it was just a string of sentences seperated by a carriage return instead of a press of the space bar. It wouldn't have been so bad if the spelling and grammar wasn't so appalling. Since I started writing this I've been wracking my brains trying to remember whose it was; no one regular.

    But it was a 4.6.

    I agree.
I think some people only up vote so that maybe that person may vote 'up' back.

I've read so many poems that are no way 'excellent'. I think some people are also too passive to vote down.

I know its nice to get a '5' but you dont learn anything from

    wow thats excellent 5/5

    You learn something from:

hmm, you could practice more rhythm and maybe add some meaning to your words.

    something like that

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I guess it won't change and there's nothing wrong with the voting system just the users of it.

    thanks

I would only consider downvoting wrong if someone voted a low number for spite or out of revenge or some similar reason. If they give a low number because that is their true opinion, thats why the numbers are there. Its fair and honest.

Dude a 4.6 to a 4.8 isnt that big of a deal get over but the one girls right people will just rate 1's becauise they do like you or there jelous and its stupid

  • swill

Nobody can really rate a poem. You can comment, but you just can't put a number to it.

    On WHAT #@@$ing grounds?!
