    um, racism means:
    1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
    2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

    and race means:
    1. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race.

So what kind of peom to DO you want us to write that is on racisim but doesn't include colour or religion? They are the basis for race.

    More Worth

With a smirk on his face, he walks around
Holding his head up, high and proud
He looks at the beggers on the ground
Then his kindness begins to shroud

From block to block, he see things
    Slanted eyes of asian freaks
    Small frames of human beings
Eyes black and filled with bleak

Blacks lining up in dark alleys
Fists and guns in their hands
A hated, feared kind of society
A place where one must defend

    Turbans and silk dresses hang
    From dark middle-Eastern heads
    Hoops of gold jewelry rang
    While their rich aroma spread

A smirk still lined my face
    My posture up and straight
    Seeing these inferior race
    Certainly deserves their hate

Then a hand grasps my collar
Yanks me back in sudden force
Men starts to punch and hollar
    Cursing, laughing with their voice

That's what you get for being white
    For being in our neighborhood
We're gonna give you a little fight
Isn't that what we freaks should

*Bah, don't like this one, forced it out

    Just the Same

It was a normal day in Kindergarten
As we played in the beating sun
Being with my brand new friend
I had never had so much fun

We raised our hands for roll call
As the teacher yelled each name
I could tell his skin was darker
But our palms were just the same

    Elementary School had begun
    The tasks became more tough
But he always stood beside me
    When things were getting rough

    We walked the halls together
Not feeling and ounce of shame
I could tell his skin was darker
But our palms were just the same

Next it was time for Junior High
    Where people started to change
Yet he never left my side when
All the others were acting strange

On stage in play I saw him clapping
As my first song met with acclaim
I could tell his skin was darker
But our palms were just the same

We had made it to High School
I was scared of everything inside
But I felt safe walking with him
As our feet were in perfect stride

He led me onto the dance floor
The night of the first home game
I could tell his skin was darker
But our palms were just the same

    Graduation had finally arrived
After waiting out four long years
As we put on our cap and gown
My eyes welled up with tears

    Walking towards the stage together
I heard cheers from the audience
And looking up at my best friend
I could see not one difference

**So, this is sort of the opposite of racism. I don't know if you'll accept it, but I still wanted to enter.

    ~Hindsight [Martin Luther King Jr.]~

I wonder what Martin would think,
if he took a look at our generation,
and saw that those he once stood for,
    have succumbed to degradation.

He'd scowl at the way women are treated,
by the men of their own race.
Treated as nothing more than property,
    a nationwide disgrace.

    He'd watch the hip-hop videos,
turning his head as if not to see,
    women dancing half-naked,
    right upside Snoop D O double G.

He would see the war is civil now,
race no longer divides the sides.
    The black population kills itself,
gang members who kill to survive.

He'd realize that his time was wasted,
    no improvements have been made.
There is only one true difference now,
    whites aren't needed to degrade.

For future reference, religious oppression is called anti-semitism. If you want poems about religion, then make a contest solely based on that. Otherwise, don't comment on the poems of your participants when they clearly follow YOUR rules.

Extremely pissed off mood...needed to vent. Sorry that it was at your expense.

    So I'm different

    So I'm a Christian
    I read the bible; I'm a goody-goody
    I don't do anything wrong
I pray to God the father and Jesus
    So I'm Christian

    I'm Wiccan
I can cast spells and charms
To get that hot new kid in class
To bring someone from the dead
    I'm Wiccan

    I'm Buddhist
I know my religion but not the whole way
I believe in reincarnation and nirvana
    I aim for perfection
    I'm Buddhist

    I'm a Taoist
I believe that when I die and I'm good enough
I get to live part of the Tao
It's yin and yang, people, yin and yang
    I'm a Taoist

    I practice Islam
I'm Muslim, not "Moslem", I like the sun and moon
I dress up in different clothes because I'm different
It's a law over here to act the way I do
    I practice Islam

What I really want to say, no matter who I am
Is don't push me away because my religion seems a scam
I've got feelings just like you, and I don't kill for fun
If I said I was Catholic, would you call me a nun?

The things we do in life we choose by ourselves
And if we don't, then we're pushed by someone else
Don't treat me different just because we're not the same
Because if you do that, all you will do is discriminate

That's why they made people called friends
It's where the loving starts and the calling names ends
So if you want to let it slide that you're different from me
That's perfectly okay because that's how it's meant to be

    Inequailty

    Will things ever get better?
    & can we ever change?
until we get a better outlook
things will always be the same
    everything is soo superficial
    our standards are unreachable
    nothing ever seems quite fair
& just when you think you might be good enough
the discrimination seems too much to bare

    We fear rejection
& the hurt that comes with it
we find it hard to trust people
& miss out on something special
our feelings we'd rather not show
we continue to wonder what we're looking for
the feeling of safety we don't want to let go

All we'd reall like is to be accepted
for once class & beliefs just shouldn't be an issue
    dividing people just creates problems
    were really not that different
all we want is to be happy
& make a friend or two
You and I are just human
    I'm really just like you.
