i was just wondering what everyone thinks a bad poem is - we all know what a good one is (something we obviously like reading) soo... whats a bad one?

only a reader can determine wats so gud or bad in a poem... the best way to determine is not by simply reading the poem but by LIVING the poem... i mean to say that one should try to relate to a poem while reading... by that way u can surely come to know how much pain has a poet taken while writing it... if a reader cannot LIVE the poem i.e. relate to the poem then its okay but if the reader really feels that the poem has some resemblance with him/her then the poem is gud... i don't believe that forced rhyming is the reason for a bad poem... but i do believe that lack of originality makes a really bad poem...

Amen to that! I so agree. When I feel, live, and relate to the poem, I LOVE it!

We all relate to different things, don't you agree?

My personal opinion of a bad poem is one that:

    - Loses the main theme
    - Has very forced rhymes
    - Ends thoughts abruptly, and goes on to another
    - Is very "choppy"
    - Loses the rhythm

    What makes a bad poem:

    - Jumbled feelings (a whole lot of emotion/emotions without any structure and very poorly expressed - not expressed well)

    - Emotion dribble (just going on and on emotionally, without really captivating ones reader)

    - Lack of expession (not knowing how to make use of the words, language, at your disposal)

    - Lack of congruence/symmetry (the poem is all over the place without making smooth transitions and not really taking you anywhere)

    - Lack of fluency, flow, rhythm

    - Forced or poor rhyming

    - Lack of literary merit, eloquence

    - Poor writing

i hate bad/easy rhymes like sigh..die...cry..lie if you want to try and imporve your poetrythen try and use uncommon words to rhyme they flow more natually and feel like they slot right in to the restof the poem
i hate it when you read the 2nd line of a stanza and you already know whatthe last word on the 4th line is going to be...

If you're going to bring up older topics please add more to your post. Thanks :)

A bad poem is something forced, monotone feeling, improper grammar, and the big one being a poem that was stolen because the poet did not write it but claimed it as their own. It could end up trashing a poem completely.

i believe that poems are nice, since they express the poet's feelings in his own way...but there r one kinds of poems that "i" dont like which r the poems that seem to be as rap songs...wow, and the poems that use "lots and lots and lots of swearing words and cursing"

Poor grammer, misspelled words. Forced rhymes, choppy flow. Unless, its used to add strength to the poem. Proofreading is a plus.

Bad Poem? Erm, In all honesty there is no such thing. 'good poems' are stereotypical views. Any poem is good if the poet who wrote it thinks so.

I dont believe that there is such a thing as a bad poem, a poem is someone thoughts, or inface a real event n someones life. a poem just expresses these types of feeling in words, how can it be bad ??? ( but thats just what i think )

If a poem is written in a sappy, corny way, or it just carries on and on about something, then it normally means it's a bad poem. But it's really your opinion, I guess. You can't really say "Ew, I hate that poem, it's too morbid" or anything, because someone in that same frame of mind as the writer can really like it, or really hate it. so it depends on the person.
