Ways to Cheer Up :o)

    Okay guys
I realise this is the sadness forum but I thought for all you people coming in here upset and depressed could probably do with some effective methods of cheering yourself and/or others up. This thread is calling on the suggestions of ALL members who have any bright ideas or thoughts on how to help yourself or another person out of the depression/saddness they may be drowning in.

I'll happily throw an idea in to start...

Animals - animal therapy. Although Im allergic like nothing else to anything with fur there is something about playing with a kitten or a dog, heck any kind of animal that makes me feel better when Im down. I'm not too sure what exactly it is, their loyalty their companionship, the fact you can tell them all your secrets knowing they will never spill them or for that matter talk back. I suggest for those of you who dont have an animal to head to your local animal shelter, take a dog for a walk voluntarily not only will you feel better once you have gotten out of the house, played with a friendly puppy or kitty but you'll also feel really good about helping out those animals who arent lucky enough to have proper homes and owners to care for them.

So who has any more ideas? :o)

    Remember stay smiling xxoo

Usually any activity that involves lots of friendly people, music and a some time to waste cheers me up-- but, well, as there aren't always people around, I might read jokes, look for images on the web, take photos, chat with someone over the internet, play with my pets (two dogs, three cats, two budgies) wash clothes by hand, or do exercise.
Most of the time, if I talk to the right people, they make me feel happy and wanted, as though I fit in, or am actually an asset.

What's a budgie?! Where are you from? Lol. It's a small bird, commonly kept as a pet. Search google images if you want to know what they look like :]

Budgerigar (sp?) Anyway, they usually come in blue, greens, whites and yellows, and mostly a mix of those colors.
Ever heard of love birds? I think the original love-birds were a pair of blue budgies... well, they are extremely affectionate and cuddly if you get the right pair together.
Two of the same gender caged in the same space will result in a fight until the death. I am not kidding.

    Yes, they are birds.
My cats are tortoiseshells, and amazingly beautiful. Chloe, Nina and Chelsea. The light of my life.

i heard that ice cream cheers you up...something in it that reacts with the body cells....

...tried and tested - i dont think it works but you guys might!

I know from experience... ice-cream and chocolate only work 100% if you have them with someone else. If you just sneak a super-sized pack and gorge, the only result will be a temporary sugar-high, guilt, and more calories than you need...
But talking it over with a snack and some friends.. heheh, that cheers me up.

Put on some dance music and even if you don't know how to dance, get some techno blasting or something and just start acting crazy. Dance on your bed or anything. It's pretty fun and it always cheers me up.

Well ways to cheer other people up I find if there down and I'm talking to them on msn i'll compliment them say if they put themselves down and you tell them it's not true and you argue it's not true they'll actually think wow there really trying to make an effort to make me think more positive and they get happier! :) A few of my friends have come to me in tears and I'll listen to they're problems than after I'll crack a few jokes and get them to start happy crying. lol. Ways I cheer myself up, is going to the park and swinging on the swings I just let my problems fly away in the wind and disapper to another world, or i'll spend time with my cats, I have four kitties so lots to choose from and yeah.

I HAD A BUDGIE!! his name was kiwi... then my cat killed him.. : [ it made me sad but i still got my cat to cheer me up. The only way i cheer up usually is to hang out with my BFF. He is like the funniest ever. and he is the closest ive ever been to someone EVER. well hmmm other advice is to get around ppl when your depressed that usaully helps me.

go for a walk, sit down by a stream/river.. look up at the clouds and daydream about being somewhere better, i find staying home when i feel down makes me worse, even though most of the time i don't want to go anywhere when i feel down, but always feel better for it afterwards.. especially when the weather is sunny or rainy. well that makes me feel a bit better most of the time ;)

Great advice Donna...nature getting onesself back to nature a lil fresh air, some sunshine, a long stretch of the legs can do wonders for a person. For me theres nothing like sunshine and water to make me feel better and give me time to think on my own...who has some fave places in nature they like to visit? Wanna share?

Still no body has mentioned as to whether they know what a budgie smugler is?? LMAO :oD

I don't have any to post, but I saw the animal therapy one and I totally agree. when I am feeling really down, just one look into the eyes of my young horse makes me smile, no matter what. especially when I get slobbery kisses. he's the one guy who won't hurt me, and I love him so much for that.

    :)

I found the right word for budgie.... parakeet!

Anyway, my animals can cheer me up, if not my friends. As I think I mentioned before, they are the best. We can start mock-fighting (actually, it's quite realistic fighting...hahah, check out the bruises..) after a while I'm either so involved in our games, or I'm laughing to hard to remember my worry.

*sigh* I do wish I could be with my friends right now.

depression is a state of mind.. telling yourself that you need things to make you happy.. and when those things are out of reach you get 'depressed' set yourself realistic goals and stick to them.. or better yet.. dont have goals.. then when you do something brilliant reward yourself for all the work you did because you never thought you would make it that far..

  • Eibutsina

Gabrielle depression is not a state of mind, well it is in one aspect but its also a medical problem in some cases due to chemical imbalance in ones brain...people DO throw the depression word around a bit much these days but to say it is merely a state of mind is false.
    Its a clincally diagonosed condition
I believe you may be referring to angst or saddness.

Aparently helping people cheers me up. I forget my problem and focus on the other person problem, finding ways to solve theirs even if mine seems unsolvable.

I also tend to turn saddness into anger with I'm upset, which for me is MUCH easier to deal with. If I'm lucky I'll get into a conversatoin with one of my friends who understands that I'm mad, and I can start talking about stupid stuff... I had one long stream of IMs that were all about hurting the smile she used, and killing off some characters I made. Making death threats make me happy, but they're never about real people, just fictoinal.

"Hey, you know what... I'm considering havinge Dyne kill Ashley's mom. She's really a useless character, and she'd be fun to kill. I just need to figger out how....."

    :D
