I have suffered from dentophobia since I could remember, severe fear of dentists.
It's a horrible condition, and almost incurable.
I wonder if there are any fellow sufferers? I suppose not, in our hardest trials, we are mostly alone.

I HATE going to the dentist, but I wouldn't say it is a phobia... =/... But I do hate going. I get uneasy, because they are always looking in your mouth... and my mouth has had a lot of cavities... So that's a lot of drilling... But I did get some kind of herb supplememts to get at ease while at the dentist. It worked well (along with the gas and the novocaine)

I don't know if it's a phobia - but I HATE th dentist. I dread teh appointment cards, and used to cry everytime I had to go. Although I havn't been for like 7 years. It's horrible.

I can only eat on one side of my mouth because of a really nasty cavity... yeah, well, I have to go pretty soon, and to be honest, it is going to be the most trying, horrifying, terrfying and destructive thing that I will probably have to do in a LONG time...

Well, that made me sound very dramatic, but the truth is that the fear is driving me insane.

Ha, and the worst of it, is that I have been doing self-defense for a few months, and I have the impression that I will not be able to contain myself and will punch the dentist when they put the needle in.

The thing is that I am EXTREMELY sensitive to pain, and even though they gel your gum before putting the needle in, I still feel it, and it hurts SO much..

Plus the nerves... I get nauseated just walking past a dentist's building... and when I get in the office I am ready to pass out :_( It has ruined my entire life. I know that sounds far-fetched, but it is true.

I don't have a phobia of the dentist, but I'm scared of going. The one dentist I used to go to was filling a cavity and with the stupid drill thing he wasn't paying attention and he knicked my chin and I have a scar on it now.

I have always had this fear, yes...
Once, a few years ago I decided that I wasn't scared anymore, that it had all been in my mind..all I needed was one tiny, albeit stubborn milktooth pulled...
So, I went to the dentists, and told him what I needed.
Okay, but hang on..I need to clean this tooth here first, he said, and filled a cavity. Thankfully, it was very small and so I barely noticed what he had been doing. Then, he put in the needle = lots of pain. Then he pulled the milktooth. Then a much bigger milktooth, and then another small one...
All I can say is that I was absolutely traumatized by the pain, and the horrible sensation of so many teeth pulled.
Afterwards he said, "she still needs work done. She's going to be traumatized after this, so bring her back tomorrow, and we'll get all the work done..
So the next day, I had a filling..the needle hurt like %$&%/!! but I survived.
After that, I tried to get another one done, and I just couldn't..

I haven't been back to the dentist since.. it's been a long time.

I think the difference of a general dislike and a phobia.. well, a phobia is when you stay up until five in the morning, craddling your face and thinking about death (anything to make the pain go away) but still can't walk inside the front door of a dentist's office.
It's when fear consumes you to the extent that it dictates your life..

but toothache is the worst pain ever.. it's wierd how we will go to major lengths to try and take our mind off toothache (which of course doesnt work).. stay up night after night, for weeks on end in excrutiating pain, when a few visits to the dentist.. a couple of hrs discomfort maximum would get rid of the endless weeks/months of pain.. but still we put it off.. well i do anyway and mine is a dislike for them not a phobia.. hmm guess i should just go
