Poetry

pattimari sheets I feel that your definition of poetry is very poetic. Most people agree that poetry is subjective. Many people believe the heart soul and mind are subjective as well. A lot of philosophers were also poets and explored the balance that you speak of. I am not sure that poetry can be reduced to a science. I am equally as skeptical that the mind is independent of the heart, as some would have us believe
To find the synthesis in which opposites and contradictions meet and merge
Would put a persistent philosopher on the verge
Of rising to the highest knowledge of universal unity
Which is the intellectual equivalent of the love of God’s entity

If I may quote JHarrison from the' what makes a poet' thread

    “^very ^very autotelic

I think that anyone can call themselves a poet, it doesn’t mean very much though. Poetry is subjective, values of good or bad are then relative.”

If you really only had a second grade education I can think of two words in this quote you would have problems with... subjective and autotelic which I just now looked up lol

subjective 2 : of or relating to the essential being of that which has substance, qualities, attributes, or relations
3 a : characteristic of or belonging to reality as perceived rather than as independent of mind : PHENOMENAL -- compare OBJECTIVE 1b b : relating to or being experience or knowledge as conditioned by personal mental characteristics or states
4 a (1) : peculiar to a particular individual : PERSONAL (2) : modified or affected by personal views, experience, or background b : arising from conditions within the brain or sense organs and not directly caused by external stimuli c : arising out of or identified by means of one's perception of one's own states and processes -- compare OBJECTIVE 1c
5 : lacking in reality or substance : ILLUSORY
    - sub·jec·tive·ly adverb

autotelic having a purpose in and not apart from itself
a simpler definition of subjective is having to do with thoughts and feelings
Where as in my opinion objective writings deal more with the concrete concepts

Now this is what threw me on your comment dwelt
Quote; ........”your statement is far too broad to include everyone.”

Let’s compare the evolution of an aspiring poet. Is there a single turning point where a non-poet becomes a poet?

I think it is a paradox that many feel poetry is a broad term
But seem to convey also that poems have to be recognized by masters of the art before they are meaningful

P.S. I absolutely agree that good and bad, broad and narrow are relative to poetry

    synthesis
: deductive reasoning b : the dialectic combination of thesis and antithesis into a higher stage of truth

Thank you dwelt, my friend no matter what name you post under
I believe we are in agreement that not every one feels the same. Feelings seem to fall under the jurisdiction of the heart. I have been alive long enough to know that you can’t make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they finally give in. Please excuse the random thought. I could not resist injecting a little humor. Separating the intellect from the emotions is a skill I am still struggling with. Thank you again for rephrasing your statement on the statement. It seems that society as a whole are no closer to feeling alike than they are thinking alike. Thinking seems to fall under the jurisdiction of the mind. I know from experience that a mind is a terrible thing to lose.

"I have been alive long enough to know that you can’t make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they finally give in."

That is the funniest thing I've read in a long time...sadly it's true in some cases.
