Society and Love

Has today's society made it wrong for the woman to be older than the man, or is it a matter of personal opinion? Should it matter what our society thinks or only what you think?

I think that recently, society has actually made it ok for the woman to be older than the guy. As to the the other question, I think it only matters what you think. Of course, you have to abide by the law, remember your morals/religion, etc. But generally just follow your heart. No one, not even society, can tell you who or what to love at what time in a certain way.

it doesn't matter to me, older or younger if i like her it makes no difference... except the law thing.

^follow your heart, abide by the law (agreed)

but i figure society has "evened out" way back when the girl would be 20 and the guy would be like 40+ (i do believe)

If we followed society 100% we would all be the same without personal thoughts and opinions.

Personally, I would like a guy that was a bit older.. I guess I would feel more protected..

But, if he was younger, but I still truly loved him, nothing else would matter.

to me the thought of a girl being older than a guy doesn't seem to work out all the time. now dont get me wrong I dont have an issue with either gender being older or what ever but it seems to me that in most cases guys that are younger have a tendency to not understand some of the conflicts that you as a person go through at least not compleatly. but who really does... so i guess what I'm say is that I dont think its society that says a guy shouldn't be younger that a girl its more personal in that a person has to feel comfortable with each other and conections and well inteligence with the world. It just alot rarer that the girl is old because scientically girls mature faster and guys that are at the same place as a older girl are not a common occurance. so people look at it like its weird because of things like this. but I also believe that because it is so rare for relationships like that to work out society does look down on them. so I guess its really up to the people in the relation ship to decide for them selves. as for the law thing I think there are some minor flaws. I mean ok one is 18 and one is 17 I dont think its right for them to be critisised, for one year difference when there are many couples out there that have more distance between ages. I think it is more personal with what a person is right, although I am glad they have something out there protectiong kids who dont know what they are really getting into. so yeah I guess follow the laws but if it is a situation like I mentioned befor then I dont really believe its a big deal. I mean I have a friend who was put in jail for having sex with someone who turned 18 in 30 minutes to me that to me is an idotic thing.because for the rest of their life they will have to register as a sex offender were it wasn't like 30 minutes later they were going to be anydifferent there minds are not going to suddenly grow into something compleatly different. but yeah

Thanks everyone. In a sense, you all are right. I really do think it's a personal thing, but maturity can really come into play here. To me I think now I've realize that as long as you both believe the same thing, have the same values, and truly care for one another, it doesn't really matter if there's a year difference or whatever the case may be. It's a matter of personal opinion and it shouldn't matter what society thinks!

I would think society, the media playing a major role, has promoted women being in love with men younger than them. Look at who some of the Hollywood stars are dating. A lot of older women are going after the younger guys. Also, in the life an average joe or jane like us, it's personal choice, but we are still influenced by the media.

"If we followed society 100% we would all be the same without personal thoughts and opinions."

^^ Wrong. If we followed society 100%, we can still be an individual with our own personal beliefs. Society has changed many times over the years. It has accepted many differnet beliefs. We would be more free in a society if people followed it 100%. In music and sports we have choices.
Culture and religion has bridged a gap and have been in accepted in many societies, depending on where you live. Choices in where we eat, shop, style of clothes. In an average society, people can feel more accepted. It would be much better if people followed society 100%.
