Are Sonnets Too Difficult, Hard???

Are Sonnets to difficult, hard, and what else in poetry do you find difficult? What other forms confound you and what about poetry do you find most difficult? What in poetry do you find difficult to do, to use, employ???

Now, me personally, I like and enjoy writing sonnets and have found, if you take the time to master them, master the form, it is not so hard. In time and with application, and aquired knowledge and experience sonnets get infinitely easier, from my experience at least. But I do have to say, the thing that confounds me most about them and meterical forms in general are the "Iambic Meters". I don't always stress my syllables right, in fact any metering system that consist of stressing or accenting specific syllables is a chore for me. The problem is not that I can't do it, for I do it all the time, it's that I don't know (understand) the mechanics of it. It's just something I do naturally in setting the rhythm, but since I effectively distinguish a hard syllable from a soft one and viseversa, my metering isn't always 100% on point, so I can write a sonnet and sometimes be of in the iambic metering (with my iambic pentameter)!!! That's what I find, perhaps, most difficult in poetry getting the metering right, metering a poem properly. I can do it, but it's more my natural ability with rhythm than proficiency in and of the technical mechanics of metering. If you asked me to do metering, out of the context of a poem and just had me singular metered lines, I'd probably have difficulty.

I also find metaphors difficult. I can come up with them and write them naturally within the flow of a poem or speaking, but if you asked me to just reel off a few, come up with metaphors, it would be a bit taxing for me.

I love sonnets!! The only type I have written is Italian though, and I find them easy if you figure out what you are going to be writing about. I love them. I am going to try writing one in Shakespeare form, I just have to practice the Iambic Pentameters and then I will attempt it. I also want to try French, which should be easy since it is pretty much the same as Italian just a stricter syllable count. I like sonnets =]
