Big words?

If you put big, impressive words into a passage, does it make it sound better. Can anyone say that it does or doesn't or it is a self-concious thing for most people?

If some of the words in my poetry seem big it wasn't done on purpose. I have a bigger vocab than some people I know which makes finding the erfect word seem easy to me. Though some people probably do that without knowing what the words mean. I wouldn't really know.

Make sure the words make sense where they are placed though. I have read a few on here with very impressive word choice, but you can tell they used a thesaurus where it was not even needed.

It's not the size of the words used, but how they fit the piece, poem. Know the word you're using and if it fits your work!!! Each individual word must fit the line, stanza, it's in and fit the poem overall.

I dont think anyone will want to idol big (unfamiliar) words in a poem for the fun of it, it will turn out to be a junk. What is a poem that cant be read to understanding?
