i've been cutting chips and cookies and stuff...

tip-don't forbid yourself anything...you'll start to crave it and then eat like a pig the next time you have it...eat it in small portions every once in a while...

also...don't eat anything out of a large container...take a little bit and put on your plate then put the container/bag away.

    DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!!!

    hope i helped.

    Exercises.

[Do 3 or more sets of each, do them all at once, or through the entire day. It is important to exercise daily.

-Crunches, three sets of 100: Lie on your back with your feet flat and your knees bent. Put your hands behind your head and bring your shoulders/upper torso up off the floor. Then lower back down. Tip: For more of a challenge and to work different sets of muscles, try doing these with your calves in the air parallel to the floor, or with your feet up above your head. (My PE teacher made us do the above-the-head ones...ouch, but it worked.)

-Push-ups, three sets of 15: You can do these the "girly" way or the "manly" way. The girly way, you have you knees on the floor. The manly way, you have your feet on the floor. I recommend starting the girly way and then upgrading to the manly way when your arms are stronger. Lower your upper body as close to the floor as you can, and then push yourself back up. Tip: Bring in a Jedi mind trick if it gets tough: Bring the ground close to you, and then push it away.

-Lunges, three sets of 25 for each leg: Stand with your feet together. Then step one foot out and bend both knees; the thigh of your front leg should be parallel to the floor, as should the calf of your back leg. Then stand and step back to your starting position. Switch legs and repeat. Tip: I usually do a set with one leg and then a set with the other. This keeps me from tiring out too quickly.

-Candles, three sets of 20: Lie on your back with your legs straight up in the air (or as straight as you can get them) and your hands either flat on the floor or behind your head. Lower your legs to about a 45- or 60-degree angle, then bring them back up to vertical, and push your butt up in the air so that only your upper torso is still on the floor. Lower your butt back to the floor. Tip: The lower you lower your legs, the more it will work your abs. You can also bring crunches into this by keeping your upper torso off the floor while you bring your legs back up.

-Bicycle, to 3 songs: This is done while playing music...hence the "3 songs" part. Lie on your back and move your legs as if you are riding a bicycle. The songs you choose should equal about 10 minutes total. So no 45-second punk rips or 20-minute techno mixes. An average of 3:20 is good. Tip: I like to listen to "ana" songs while I do these because it keeps me motivated.

Eat several small meals each day, small portions every three hours (as if you don't eat every 3 hours your body actually goes into starvation mode and starts storing fat and precious energy).

Thats a balanced diet of course as per the healthy food pyramid consisting of the tiniest amount of fats and sugars, your carbs, your meat and diary and of course fresh fruit and veggies.

On top of that try some cardio exercise, boxing or running or aerobics something high energy about twice a week and you will soon start to notice the difference in your physique, its hard work but has fast results so it'll keep you motivated.

I can honestly tell you that you don't have to deprive yourself of sugars or carbs. I lost 40lbs, and all i did was count calories, get more physically active, and watched portion size. I would say go on a 1,300 or 1,500 calories diet. Treating yourself to things you love once and a while doesn't hurt. Depriving will only lead you to binge.

Ok ŘÅÇĦ♥ that's going way too far. That's the kind of advise which encourages people to be anorexic. Turn the temprature down in your house and have cold showers? Yeah, really great idea. Burn just a few more calories but instead you catch phemonia and die =/

Brit, I wouldn't listen to that kind of rubbish and I just advise eating healthily and exercising. I eat what I want in moderation and go to the gym, and Im a perfectly healthy weight.

ŘÅÇĦ♥ What you said was out of line, if you want to starve yourself to death, then ok, thats sad, and you shouldn't.. But who are you to give advice which encourages anorexia.. That disgusts me..

Brit, if you want to lose weight, eat healthily, don't cut out everything like chocolate etc, but have them as treats, get more excercise than calories..

Don't will the weight to just dissapear, losing weight properly takes time and patience..

And don't do it to look like the "thinspiration" imbeciles, do it until you feel comfortable..

  • ŘÅÇĦ♥

It's not anorexic, if you want to lose weight you will do it.. Taking cold showers won't kill you.. My friend had to do it when she had poison ivy.. She is still quite alive.. Turning down the air doesn't hurt either.

Rachel what your suggesting is an unhealthy method of weight loss, its people like you who breed and spread eating disorders on young impressionable women - not good, and I will fight you with blood and teeth to prove this point. Not eating, merely slows your metabolism!!

To the initial poster if your serious about losing weight properly, in a manner you can sustain and maintain then either take my above advice or see your doctor. They will advise you better than any of us!

Rachel has some good tips in her post, so don't go blaming her for giving back tips. If your determined enough then maybe a steaming shower isnt the way to go. I hate cold showers but i wouldent mind taking a shower thats a bit below warm. Makes it easier to wake up in the morrning. Good tips Rachel im going to print them out so that I don't loose them ^^.

ok rachel did have amazing tips.. i really like htem.. they arent for ppl who go anorexic.. i agree with the post above mine... those r good tips adn they dont encourage anorexia or any kind of eating disorder.. if u dont like the tips she posted then dont read htem.. she was jus giving brit some pretty helpful tips.. i have used some of rach's tips and they have worked so far... honestly its not anorexia if u take her tips.. cuz there r tips on eating the right kinds of food.. ne ways... if u do wana lose weight i think u should exercize and eat healthy. thats really all u can do. well take care

  • Void

I honestly don't think that Rach meant it as a stop-eating-at-all kind of tip. Just to cut back. Because the majority of us (meaning people in general, not people on this site) are over eaters, or under excercised. Face it, obesity is setting into the world comfortably. Going back to smaller portions and eating healther can only help you - that is assuming of course that you do over eat. I can truthfully say that I do, sometimes, over eat. Mostly when I'm stressed and bored at the same time. Her tips aren't bad. Just put them into use on a personal level. Don't assume there's no eating at all, or that you eat too much. You should only use the tips you feel necissary..... I personally wanna thank Rachel for her tips. :)

What ŘÅÇĦ♥ said sounded a bit like an eating disorder. The exercises are very good, but start off with simple absominals, two sets of 20, push-ups, if you haven't done them before, definitely the "girly" way, three sets of 12, as bursting into a heavy work-out can cause a lesion.
If the weather is warm, a very brief spray of cold water after your usual shower helps circulation.
Lemon juice is also very beneficial for the circulation, which improves your heart and is also said to burn fat. Garlic is good too... I happen to not like it, so what I do is when I simply MUST have that white-bread sandwich with the thick spread of butter, I chop as much garlic as I can fit and put it in.. that way something good comes out of something bad.

Perhaps good posture helps... and of course exercise is a must. Make sure to eat at least one salad a day, and eat good, wholesome, large meals with lots of vegetables so that you won't want to snack.

Make sure to start slowly, go cutting out fatty oils and sugars slowly, and make up for them with lots of fresh fruit.

You say the things you are advising are not encouraging anorexia, but perhaps you should read through them again.
"Thinspiration" scrapbooks are and awful way to encourage people to lose weight.
They are encouraged among all the disgusting "pro-ana" sites.
Although you do not openly encourage her to starve herself, some of your advice will put her well on the road to anorexia.

  • ABrookeD

^ I agree. What is wrong with you? That's so obsessive. If that's what you do in a day, you need some help. Nobody should obsess about weight that much. You should never deprive yourself of foods. Exercise is good, but excessive exercise is bad. If someone starves their body of the nutrition it needs, especially as a teen, the body will start to feed on organs. Without a certain amount of protein, and calcium, your bones will become weak, and you will lose muscle. It's a very serious matter. Whether you're trying to lose weight or not, your body needs certain food groups to work right. If you seriously think that's a safe way to lose weight, you need to see a doctor.

Not only do I not like them Rachel but they promote eating disorder/ potential eating disorder like behavioiur which is not healthy to go around suggesting in forums like this with young and impressionable young women.

Now you did have some good tips like your exercises and few of your other points, but you also have some compulsive obessive like tips too - weighing yourself before and after you eat? WTF? Not good muscle weighs more than fat its best to judge your body via your clothing not your weight!

I still stand by my advice which was given to me by my own doctor/nutritionist OR my further advice to see a health professional who KNOWS what they are really talking about.

"If you don't like the tips I gave don't do them simple as that."

I don't not like your tips. I hate them, they disgust me.

I won't do them. However what about all the vulnerable people on here who will, and end up anorexic? I read every one of your tips on pro anorexia sites, yet they aren't for anorexics?

People don't need to know how to become anorexics, they need to lose weight sensibly.

I can't say any more as this issue makes me so angry.

*EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST!!! it jump starts ur metabolism from the 'wleep dont burn calories mode' to the 'ok my body's active mode'
*Exercise after wards. i just walk my dog/jog with him((except now hes old and lazy and wont run)
*dont munch on junk food. dont eat while your doing something else- watching TV, reading, etc, youll eat and eat with outrelizing it,.
    *eat small portions,
*drink ALOT of water,it hydrates you and flushes out bad chems in your body, also it fills your tiummy a lil so you arent snacking al the time
*when you're eating a meal- eat slowly. my trick is to put my fork down after each bite while im chewing, that way im not sholveling food in to my mouth constantly. when u eat slow you register being full quicker.
*DONT EAT WITHIN 2 hours of the time you go to sleep. the food sits in your stomach all night and is digested directly into becoming body fat.

*dont drink soda!!! or any other kool aid, or such, many people dont realize how many calories and carbs are in an 8oz glass of soda. its horrible for you.

*also eat alot of friut & veggies- well not excessive amounts,., but instead of chips eat celery, the actually have a negative calorie count, (you burn more caloris eating them then they have) or an apple, or some grapes,.

**DONT not EAT!!! thats the worst thing you can do!! not eating causes your body to fall into a 'MUST CONSERVE FAT' mode, and you wont burn calories while working out, v/c your body will be afraid youll like starve(which you will)
******THIS IS WHYI I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH RACH♥'s way of losiong weight, its totally unhealthy, and actually is harder and mrioe dangerous..

and thats about all my ideas. =]

^^Very smart suggestions. You don't need to deprive yourself though. Trust me, with all the jumk food, sooner or later you migh binge. Treat yourself once and a while. Heck, when i was on a diet, i ate ice cream almost everynight, and still lost 40lbs.

i went on a 1,000 calorie diet.. lol.

try a sport that fits your personality, like dance or basketball, whichever makes you feel great while exercising.

and i think RACH♥'s ideas are quite helpful, aong with everyone else's...

dont hurt urself from either binging, bulimia, or anorexia, because it does more harm than good.

also, i hope you didnt take my last post too hard, but i have to tell u... in the US, practically everything is either sugar or fats... so be careful :)

Eating 1000 calories is way too low. Are you aware that your body could end up shutting down? You could end up being hospitalized. Ahh i give up. If you people want put your self st risk, you do that. The things people do just because they want to be "thin", it's absurd...

  • Eibutsina

Not too mention storing as much fat and energy as it can as its basically shutting down to starvation mode...
