annoying!

Is it just me or is poetry all about creativity?
If so, why do people comment on how grammer is wrong and other things like that?
If I wanted to write something perfect, I'd write a story.

I don't find It annoying when correct grammar Isn't used, but If after the first two lines of a poem, it is obvious that the poem is not In what I call proper English then I stop reading .The thing I do find annoying is the use of text style of writing or words like dem instead of them.

Creativity and imagination makes a poem... but good grammar makes the poem understandable.

Poetry is more than just creativity my Dear, poetry is about emotion and hate to break it to you, but proper spelling and grammar. There is a section on here called "slang", if your poem has slang words or improper words, put it there. If a person is reading poetry, they would probably like to read it with proper words and spelling. It makes it so much easier to read, you can just read through it without having to stop and figure a bunch of words out. That is just my opinion though, and everyone is entitled to one.

I personally get annoyed when the poem is 80 words and 60 words are misspelled...There is even a personal section to post "Slang Poetry." You can spell check before you submit. When a poem has spelling mistakes, it looks like a mess...The reader will concentrate more on the spelling errors than the poem itself...IF they choose to continue reading...I don't think you should judge the poem based on spelling errors, but why not take the time to check your spelling and grammar? It's simple...

I find spelling and grammer errors annoying and I will point out capitalizing I's and writing out the words instead of 'U' and You or '2' as two, to, too. And etc. But if the poem is really good, I don't care.

But what I find really annoying, and kinda mean, is that people will read a poem then not leave a comment. There have been 65 views on one of my peoms and ZERO comments!

Some of those views may have been recorded when you yourself looked at them

Do those get recorded though? Because everytime after I submit a poem, I check to see if it makes sense or if there are any grammar and spelling errors, and then I will click off of it, and then if I go back 2 minutes after to edit it again, it will still say zero sometimes. =S

Yes, poetry is definitely alot about Creativity, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't spell.
Part of good poetry is making it attractive and understandable to read....which means grammer and spelling, especially since a spell check is provided for you.

    Catherine, stop complaining.

I dont understand what the annoying part is.. i like being corrected for my mistakes.. i mean no one is perfect and if they down vote me that just tells me to work harder and try to make my poems clearer for the reader to understand my emotions and feelings..

    " no body is perfect.."

i correct grammar and spelling on other persons' work, yet often i do not use proper english in my own, i'm a hypocrite, but not very many people ever say anything about my lack of punctuation, where as when i comment upon some ones work, i basicly write about everything.. so i guess that whole saying 'what goes around, comes around' really isn't true. xD

Well, i think that having bad grammar can be misleading. If you're trying to get a certain immage across, then if you have spelling errors, that might make the reader not be able to feel the full force of your poem.

Exactly i hate when people say is is good but you got a few typos and mispellings in there and it bugs me and i like making few mistakes in mine because not everything is perfect.

i mean, i wouldnt vote it a 4 if there was spelling mistakes and otherwise it would have been a 5 , but proper grammar and spelling and punctuation does let you actually understand what youre reading!! and the english language is so complex anyways.

The thing with poetry, is that it doesn't have to be gramatically correct. Alot of people purposly mispell or puncuate(sp?) things very often...either that or they just don't know how to spell...like me =P

But I guess I understand why many people choose to read poems that focus more on the wording to where you don't have to worry or point out those gramatical errors in the poem that kind of throw you off

I think that spelling doesn't matter much, just as long as you can read what the person is saying.
