    Title :The Unforgotten
    by Luanne

    The Holocaust :

So very many lives taken within a blink of an eye
haunting smell of death, in a dark smoke filled sky
homosexuals, Gypsies, Jews and many more
innocent children oblivious to what lay in store

Pain and torture growing from months to years
children watched their parents taken, through tears
crematoriums and gas chambers, oppressive smell
blood soaked sheets filled the air, as darkness, fell

To kill the 'inferior' beings, they proclaimed
for being born Jewish, inferior they were named
dysentery plagued the camps, prisoners grew weak
dying before their prearranged death, so to speak

Taken from the death lines at the Auschwitz camps
twins marked as research, with permanent tattoo stamps
a genetic scientist, hoping to produce a master race
barbaric experiments on those who held, an identical face

Performing murderous surgeries, and painful injections
on the children, Dr. Mengele carried out horrid dissections
spirits of their departed loved ones, came to them at night
through wretched conditions, the spirits gave them, will to fight

Author's note : I can't begin to tell the whole tragedy in a day, month or even year .
The pain torture and horror is far beyond anything imaginable .
It is incomprehensible how life truly was for the victims, survivors and families who lived part of their lives in concentration camps and watched daily the massive lines of people, some of their family members even , led to their deaths .
My heart aches at the thought of the pain and torture inflicted upon the men, women and children. And I can only pray that they have found peace within the arms of God .
A peace...... they so rightfully deserve .

    Thank-you
I just finished reading "Children of the Flames" by
Lucette Matalon Lagnado and Sheila Cohn Dekel .
When I came upon your challenge .

It tells about the torture of twins that were sent to the Auschwitz camps . It was such a sad book that I spent all 268 pages of it, reading through tears .

I started a poem like that a while ago...I just never finished it...
Can I use it for this contest if I finish it...or no??

    Holocaust. (Ottawa Rima)

Night descends upon the fading horizon
Yet no crickets dare to sing it's song
Every vein within it's body has been undone
No friends or stars to move it along
Only rhythmic tunes of a shooting gun
Forcing some victim to a place they belong
A world where blood bury once beating hearts
A place where timeless love must depart

Barbed wired fences chain helpless souls
Sounds of women as their innocence dried
Children dying from the life that they stoled
Young men covering the corpse of their bride
White haunting eyes reveal their lost control
All their prosperous life has now been denied
Listen carefully and you'll hear the Earth cry
As the smell of lost hope carpet the sky

    Strong People

Sun shining brightly, white picket fence
    Nothing to worry their minds
Who knew in the few years to come
    Darkness would be their finds

Scared little faces of boys and girls
Too young to see such a hate
But age didn't matter to the men
Who broke that white picket gate

Camps on the outskirts of nowhere
Held people packed as if rats
Who ate no better than dogs
If even food could be had

Beaten and tortured day in and out
With nothing left but each other
    Lonely faces of people unknown,
    Seperated from sister and mother

Minds left to wonder if they'd survive
And if not, how they would die
    Soldiers taunting them endlessly
    Playing with innocent minds

Still conviction and strength were held to
As they sat and said there prayers
    Men could break their bodies
But not the faith that put them there

They had a choice, a slip of paper
That their faith they would give up
And signing it may have freed them
But God was more than enough

So they stayed in those filthy cells
With every disease known to man
And when they left that horrid war
Faith was stronger than when it began
