Sometime in middle school but when I showed somebody the second time they wanted to know if I felt the way the poem was written so I stopped writing poetry and picked it up not too long ago.

A long time ago, when I was just a boy we had in school a creative project where the teacher would pick a subject and we all had to call out lines for a poem or story.

The subject was "A Golden Magical Baby Bird". And I, open eyed little wonder that I am, called out the first line, and then the second...and then the third.

Basically I called out the whole thing because no one else was speaking. I got a gold star that day and a stapled copy of the poem/story...which i sadly don't have anymore.

Seriously started writing poetry at 16 to express my general confusion at the world, and being 16. : )

started in fourth grade, in school. but those really really shouldn't count. my first real poem i think i wrote in seventh grade - i've written sporatically since then, but more regularly in the last few years. nothing better than some good old-fashioned teenage angst, love, and contemplations to get the creative juices flowing ; )

Aside from the piddly rubbish you have to write in school I wrote my first real poem three years ago. My mate Liz, ( http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/author.html?id=72945 ) who is an awesome writer, challenged me after reading some of my short stories.

I find that poetry benefits my story writing style greatly.

i wrote my first poem when i was in eight grade and it wasn't because i wanted to but because i had to. it was for a class project and you had to write three poems of your own and then put it togehter with a collect of other poems. after that project i quit writing until august right before 9th grade started, and that time i chose to write the poems.

I wrote my first poem in 7th or 8th grade. I hated it and I hated poetry because the teacher was such an evil wench. As a freshman in college I discovered the power of poetry and my love for it.

I wrote some stuff in school I think but really didn't start writing poetry until I was 26. I wrote some strange stuff in rehab, lol. Some of it made sense. Later in Creative writing class I wrote a few good ones but it really wasn't until a year and a half ago that I really started writing some serious stuff.

I was 17 in my high school english class, thank god it has been long forgotten. I think I received a "C' on it. My teacher had high hopes for me back then..lmao.

My first poem that wasn't part of my education was when I was about 12, and it was a dirty limerick about a girl at school called Jane Lilley. You can probably work most of it out... :-D

Fifth grade writing assignment. Christmas poem. The winners won a trip to the local newspaper for the day, and the poems got published in that very same newspaper. I won first place... I just wanted the day out of school. Yea.

I wrote mine towards the end of my Freshmen year of high school.

I wasn't really inspired by anything.

When I was about 14 I would write them and throw them away,as I got older I would write them and hide them in a drawer, just recently did I write and share them with anyone, thanks to all the great people on this site I now enjoy the sharing as much as the writing.
