Drinking And Driving Contest.

i've never done any contests and would like to be in this one. can i?

It Wasn't Enough

She sits at the bar upon the stool
Sipping away her pain
Slowly drowning her memory
In more than mere champagne

After a few rounds of the hard stuff
She still recalls her frustration
So she grabs her purse and her car keys
Unknowing of her destination

Getting behind the wheel and knowing
She shouldn't go anywhere
But the key enters the ignition
And revs her heart to a new gear

Red, yellow, and green all look alike
Alcohol blurs them into one
But she doesn't know the difference
As she continues on with her "fun"

But the "fun" soon turns into disaster
When she can't read the stop sign
Slamming on her brakes to no avail
She just passed the knick of time

Later on that night she wakes up
In a hospital gown and bed
The migraine coming on strong now
Pain rushing to her head

Nurses and doctors flood around her
Soon the cops roll into her room
Finally it's her turn to question
As sorrow her soul consumes

"Who was in the other car
That I know I must have wrecked?
Please tell me that no one was hurt.
I know by now you have checked."

The officer looked down in her eyes
And knew now wasn't the time
But she pleaded with him to tell her
And he held off the urge to fight.

"Ma'am, that white SUV you had hit
From wherever you had been heading
Contained a young woman and man
Coming from their own wedding."

"No," she cried as she covered her face
With the shame that now filled her heart
"How could this happen to me I don't know."
She thought as she was falling apart

She'd just wanted to forget a while
About the problems haunting her life
But now they were back attacking her
With a newfound stength in their fight

New sorrows were there to deal with
New reasons to want to give up
And it was all due to her drinking
And deciding that wasn't enough

Just One More Drunk

Memorial Laced Sidewalks,
Embracing Dying Flowers,
The Memory Of One More Child,
Another One Of Ours.

We Lost One More Today,
In The Wee Hours Of The Night,
One More Young Child,
Who Gave In Without A Fight.

Around The Corner,
Just One More Mile,
For One More Drink,
We’ll Add A Rose To The Pile.

To Weak To Hold Your Eyes Open,
But Strong Enough To Drive,
Just One More Drunk,
Hoping To Survive.

Please Forgive Them God,
Can’t You See Their Weak,
They Can’t Hold There Tongues,
So don’t Ask Them To Speak,

We’ll Continue Crying For The Lost,
Hoping It Will Save The Rest,
But Tears Can’t Save Our Loved Ones,
As We’ve Lost Some Of The Best.

So We’ll Make Just One More Pile,
Waiting For This To Stop,
So We Can Save The Lives,
As The Flowers Begin To Drop.

Okay, this was extremely hard because I am very strong on this subject and all of these poems made me cry. But, here are the results...

First - Hear Me; By: Stefhy.

This poem was amazing. The way you described everything just blew me away and I felt like I was the spirit - I put myself in that situation. I have never read anything from you before this contest but when I read this I was blown away. You have talent hunnie.

Well, you have been a writer that I have been reading from for awhile now. You have some serious potential to go places with your writing. It keeps getting better with every write and I loved this one especially. It put a picture in my mind and not only a tear in my eye but actually made me break down in tears. It reminds me of something that happened to a few people I know. And it gets worse everytime. Thanks for entering this contest, you did an amazing job Hunnie.

When I first read this, I was speechless. I read it over and over again and it never got to the point where I was sick of reading it. The language and descriptions that you had used were amazing and I cannot express enough how much this poem hit me. And I sensed the popular MSN story in it, and I have tried re-writing this one myself and it has never worked. Awesome job Hunn!
