When I write a poem, I always seem to base it off my life. My life isn't the greatest nor the happiest, so my poems are usually on the sad/depressing side. How do I come up with poems that seem happier. Or how do I look at the happier things in life and be able to write a poem?? Think you can help? I know it's sorta weird. |

You can`t make yher`self write a happier poem or somethin` . I guess ... yu just gotta experience it ? Or step into anothers` shoes and imagine how happy yu`d feel if yu were them ? Idk xD |

rach writing what u know is best. Think about a time that u were happy or something that makes u happy and write about it. writing sad or depressing poems is not a bad thing. |

If it helps, I have a topic entitled NOTES ON WRITING POETRY (in the Writing Poetry forumn)with many contributuions from other P&Q members.Reading this may give you a different perspective.Hope you find something of use.We write what we know and feel for the most part-but that don't limit us as to what we can write. |

I'm 30 next week and I don't expect to be published (from a poetry aspect) for a long time to come. I think poetry is something that improves with age as we gather wisdom. |

I disagree Brett(no offense), but I had my first work published in my early twenties.Yes, we do write better as we get older, gain experience, knowledge, but raw emotion and honesty have a lot going for them. You don't have to know all the forms and technical aspects. The main thing is know your markets, submit and eventually you will get published.I garnered enough rejection slips to wallpaper my room(my early stuff was horrid, and I was submitting to the wrong magazines-eventually I became a widely published and well known name in the small press literary zines), but persevere and eventually you will find your niche.Though I agree, rewriting/revising is a never ending process(I'm still revising poems written 15 years ago!).As someone once said-'a poem is never finished, it is just abandoned".For info on markets and submissions, check out the writing poetry forumn under the topic/thread NOTES ON WRITING POETRY. |
