    Can you remember the first poem that you wrote?! I can't quite remember mine, but my early works include;
a poem about a cat that hopped past the white cliffs of dover and got stopped by a policeman whoose face was like a sour lime......
a poem about a balloon... (i'm actually quite proud of this one!!)
a brilliant master piece that i wrote when i was 6 about a goat in a coat on a boat in a moat....
i was such a prodigy.. not lol

My first poem was about a teddy bear.. I have been trying to remember it recently, but can only remember the first 2 lines lol.. it started off..
Last night I dreampt I was a teddy bear
getting dragged around by my soft brown hair.

It went on to tell the story of his day, that included being dropped in a puddle, going around in the washing machine and being pegged out on the washing line.. I was about 10 when I wrote it I think, and would love to be able to find it, or at least remember it lol

hmm i think my first REAL poem was in grade 7...we had an english class and were studying poetry...and we had to right a poem using all of the senses(sound,taste,touch,smell,sight)...so the only thing i could think of was war...it was like...the only line i think i remember was...something like...

ahh i dunno...i really wish i could find that...infact i asked my mom if she had any idea if we still have it(seeing as it was 5 yrs ago) and she didnt know...
    so i dunno

My first poem was something I was forced to do in grade school and was not good. Forced poetry never is really good work. But my english teacher had a passion for poetry and opened my eyes to poetry. She passed that passion on to me. I don't even remeber what my first poem was about.

My first poems were actually song lyrics for a band me and my friends never quite got off the ground.I kept writing as I found poetry to be good therapy and a release of emotions(in fact it helped me keep my sanity and got me through some rough times in my early years). But my early stuff totally sucked. As I had no encouragement or knowledge of forms I was left to struggle as I kept writing, the poems became more important than the fiction I was writing.I learned, made mistakes, gained some knowledge, and eventually became better. After years of horrible poems, I found my style/voice and eventually became a successful and widely published poet in the literary zines. But I look back at my early work and am just horribly embarrassed! However, save everything you write. The more you write, the better you get.Keep writing, always.

    Peace, Poetry, & Power,

ok! i remember i was in a special program at school where we did advanced work in like gr 4, and i was bored to tears (it was about clowns...and i had already made a garbagebag-full of balloon animals lol)...anyways, i just kinda wrote something and it ddnt make any sense but oh well..it was this..

you are up there in the sky
you look down and it seems so high
you feel like youre about to fall
    but why?
when you finally reach the other bend
you never want this ride to stop...
    the end!

pretty lame, huh? ah, i was 8:P

    Beauty Bird

    Summer morning,
    Winter night.
Let the beauty bird take flight.
    Shes a beauty,
    See her fly.
She has friendship in her eye.

If you want to see her here,
Call her name and she'll appear.
    She has beauty,
    She has grace.
She'll bring wonder to your face.

When the beauty bird takes flight,
It is such a magic night.
Its just to bad that spring is here.
    But come winter she'll appear.

    lol...yep, that was it:P:P

i don't think thats a bad poem!! its better than many of the poems on here. =)

my first poem, was the one i first posted on this site.

A persons self esteem is like a vibrant tree,
Strong and sturdy in the breeze,
Growing taller and wiser with every day,
Until someone comes and takes it all away.

Like leaves dropping to the ground,
People who once smiled now wear a frown.
    Awful words people say,
Follow you 'round from day to day.

The leaves drop off, as esteem drops too,
You start to think you can't make it through.
The days get longer, your mood gets worse,
Your friends see a change; your convo's are terse.

The few leaves left are barely enough,
It seems your whole life is getting tough,
It's such a struggle to finish the day,
You wonder if you should end it the easy way.

    Particularly nasty words are said,
You heart feels like it's made of lead,
You just pretend you didn't hear,
And falls down your face, is a single tear.

The solitary leaf left on the tree,
    Blows silently in the breeze,
Threatening to break at any time,
Showing the fragility of your mind.

And so you walk down the hall,
A kid hits you in the belly, your books all fall.
As others laugh, and as you sigh,
    Inside, you desperately cry.

This is the last time they will take advantage of you,
    For inside you just knew,
That this was the very last straw,
As a cold wind blows the last leaf to the floor.

My first poem... I wrote in when I was something like 6 or 7. It was about a fish who got lost. The fish encoutered shark, a whale and a sea cucumber. I don't remeber the words, and it kinda sucked, but hey, I was 6 :S.

Mine was about childbirth, odd topic to come from a 14 year old but hey.
Titled "date of birth" it was short, sweet, and simple... ending happily of course.

    "A heart beat too fast
    A flicker in time
    You see the light
    You feel the sign

    The night into day
    A minute to an hour
    Soar above the blue sky
From a bud to a flower

    Listen to the new cries
    So pure with no past
    An innocent face
In this world at last. "

Written in my History and English class (not that poetry was the intentional subject of that days English lesson...)

I hope to think I'm a little better now...

this was my first ever poem

Theres a girl in my mirror
Her cheeks are stained from her lifeless tears
I feel like shes getting nearer
    To what she fears

Her face is scarred with giant purple bruises
The razor can no longer help her
The night is slowly coming when she loses
And everything will be a blur

    She will give up
Her lifeless tears would be something of the past
Her blood would be poured in a cup
Instead of being stained forever just like the past

    Her weeps her crys
    Will all be over
    The cheats and the lies
    Will all be over

    No more fake smiles
    No more fake laughs
No more pretending theres no blood on the tiles
No more people trying to read her like she was a graph

She wants to say good bye
She is sick of saying hello
She is sick of pretending to be shy
She is sick of people saying she has an inner glow

There is no such thing as a light inside a person
Is there was this girls light had ran out
She needs to say goodbye before her life will worsen
So as she picks up the razor she has no doubt

i believe its alright for the first ever poem i have wrote lol

My first poem was with my friend about candy. It was in 4th grade, and the teacher made us read themto the whole class. Brace yourself for the lameness of...
    Candy!
    Candy, candy, oh so dandy
Yum, yum, yum, in my tum
If I eat too much I'll get a stomachache
My mom will yell and throw out my whole chocolate cake!

The class just sat there with weird looks on their faces. My friend and I ran before people started throwing things at us.

Oh my goodness... this is definitely my first poem. I wrote it when I was seven and I still remember it. I remember being so proud HAHA

    FAIRYTALES
Fairy tales are about people who are sad
then magic suddenly makes the glad
but in real life it's not that way
when people are sad they can be sad to stay
    Widows, old people and paupers
we can make them glad with our magical offers
    give them a hand
    and help them to stand
    and be happy with life
    Through life and through strife
So give a hand to lend
    and let's not pretend
    in fairy tales

I wrote my first poem at the age of 7 in my 'school poetry contest' which gave me first prize... I'm an Indian & my mothertongue is Marathi... So, it was in Marathi language... It was a comedy poem on India-Pakistan Cricket match...
