Buzz words

Why has cliche become such a massive buzz word here?

I see it all the time and it's mosty used incorrectly. Is it an attempt to sound like they know what they're talking about?

    Cliche

    1. a trite, stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse, as sadder but wiser, or strong as an ox.
    2. (in art, literature, drama, etc.) a trite or hackneyed plot, character development, use of color, musical expression, etc.
    3. anything that has become trite or commonplace through overuse.

Now commonplace does not mean trite. Trite does not mean hackneyed. And also, cliches are not always a bad thing.

Something to think about (yep, that's a cliche)?

Ah, you miss my point, young fella. I use commonplace phrases all the time, but does the fact that they are commonplace, or have familiar rhyme endings make them cliche regardless of the undertone in which they are used?

I think the term is being misrepresented by some of the people here in an attempt to sound more knowledgable than they really are.

Nothing we say, think or type is truly original, it's all been done before.
