I think the more important point about blaming bush is not that he attacked Iraq at all, the humanitarian issues under Saddam were terrible, but rather the manner in which he conducted the war. He fought the war without many principle allies. The US provided far too many of the troops. Iraq was a global problem; the UN definitely agreed on this. However, with more fine-tuning, America could have gone to Iraq with more allies and more troops.

Brian, I don’t see how you could be making statements like these if you were familiar with the history of Iraq under Saddam Hussein. There has been no person in modern history more ruthless and relentless in causing the deaths of Muslims and other inhabitants in the Mideast than Saddam Hussein. It came as no surprise that not one single Muslim nation stepped in to provide support for Saddam Hussein’s regime in this war.

Within days of taking power in 1979, he had executed dozens of his Iraqi political rivals. Just one year later he broke an existing peace treaty by sending Iraqi troops to invade neighboring Iran. That started a war that lasted 8 years, resulting in 400,000 deaths and 750,000 war injuries. Under Saddam Hussein. Iraq is known to have used mustard gas and nerve gas in that war. In 1988 he turned Iraq’s chemical weapons against its own citizens with bombing attacks on Iraqi Kurds in the north of the country. 5,000 civilians were killed and many survivors still suffer agonizing, long-term health problems, including mothers who bore deformed babies. Chemical weapons were immediately again used by Saddam in a seven-month-long scorched-earth campaign which massacred an estimated 50,000 to 100,000 Kurdish villagers and destroyed hundreds of their villages. Two years later Saddam broke another treaty by sending Iraqi troops to invade and occupy Kuwait, his neighbor to the south. His refusal to withdraw from Kuwait resulted in the Gulf War which cost the lives of 1000 Kuwaitis and an estimated 60,000 to 200,000 Iraqis. In addition to the war casualties, Saddam’s orders to carry out the destruction of Kuwait’s oilfields resulted in the worst environmental disaster of modern times. Before he was forced out of power, Saddam had been paying $25,000 each to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers who carried out death missions in Israel that were responsible for murdering hundreds of innocent Jewish and Muslim civilians alike. Since the beginning of the Iraq war, mass graves containing bodies of thousands more Iraqis who were tortured and executed by Saddam’s regime have been uncovered. In a Baghdad suburb a prison holding 150 captive Iraqi children was also discovered.

This is the bloodthirsty legacy of Saddam Hussein. And if there is any condemnation to be made, it belongs with Saddam, not the one responsible for his downfall.

Bush went over to get Saddam for something his old man shoulda finished 13 years ago...and since the U.S. cant find a 6 foot 7 man in Afghanistan with a dialysis machine, he picked on another terrible human being..if you can call Saddam one..and now we are rebuilding what we destroyed over there in Iraq, that really makes sense, doesn`t it?

... Except that the movie Fareinheit 9/11 is dishonest, inaccurate and not deserving of being called a documentary. This is the typical fashion in productions from Michael Moore. Words taken out of context from interviews, innuendos and too many other misleading depictions to draw any accurate conclusions from this movie.

well, i don't know that much about it because i'm only 15 and don't really read EVERYTHING. But i think it is dumb how our troops have been out there for about 2 years and haven't finished! They probably should come back. I think Bush planned that terrorist attack as an excuse to go over there and take thier oil! Call me crazy but it makes sense!

Lizzy, i think your point of view just solidifies the fact that you must be very ill-informed. I'd be interested in knowing exactly what you meant by "Bush planned that terrorist attack" is "that" refering to the attacks on the World Trade Centers? As i presume it is i have this to say: 1) If you think that President Bush orchestrated an attack on his own country, then answer me this: Did he plan this attack alone [NO, of course he didn't he needed help] So, Who did he plan it with, Osama? Saddam? Both? [NO, The chances of both of those "terrorists" keeping there mouths shut IF BUSH DID ASPIRE TO ATTACK HIS OWN COUNTRY are none. The whole world would know "George W. Bush planned "that terrorist attack" on his own country." 2) I also believe that Iraq only supplies America with just over 2% of it's oil. "Call me crazy but it makes sense" I'm sorry but to me it makes no sense, a President of the United States of America plans an attack on his own country (killing many thousands of Americans + others) as an excuse to invade a country for its oil. Now that is crazy. I can quite clearly see, that yes you don't really read EVERYTHING!.

The idea that this war is motivated by oil is brainless. I'd like someone to explain why anyone would think the best way to extract oil from a foreign country is to attack it with military force. That makes no sense at all. Every oil producing country is willing to sell its oil at the going rate on the world market.

And if oil was the reason, why haven't we just aimed our gunsights at every oil producing country? It would have been a whole lot simpler to knock out Nigeria or Venezuela than Iraq.
