Hey, was just wondering how people react to poems based on a certain religion, or to God or against God or whatever. Does anyone have an opinion on it? Just wondering what you think.

I think some people go over the top with it, but I'm not gonna go out there and tell them they're wrong.

Personally, I don't claim any faith. I have written several poems on different religions. I guess you're right, though. People do take it seriously.
So I apologize if I've offended anyone.

Oh thanks for replying, it is a hard subject when there are so many different religions and stuff. I am a Christian but have only reccently got fully into writing religion poetry, if you read my bio/profile thing you will see why.

One thing that annoys me though is when comments are made saying poems are crap just because they are Religious. THats just rude and offensive. Anyway!

Um I have to say I'm not religious and not really interested in reading poetry about it.

it's ok for me- i mean to read and write poems about religion. i don't know, i respect them all. yeah, it's a touchy subject, but i try to stay away from those i'm not so familiar with so that i don't ever offense anyone.

I love poetry that's evocative of emotion, and religion definitely evokes a great deal of emotion.

Now... mind you, just because a poem is religious does not immediately make said poem good... there are still the creativity of form, the use of imagery, and/or various other tools of poetic manifestation that may be lacking.

But to avoid writing and posting religious poetry just because it's religious... I don't know. Seems like a disservice to yourself as a poet. And if you truly have faith in your religion, if you didn't post something just because it was religious and may be controversial, wouldn't that be flying in the face of both yourself and your faith?

I respect religious poetry but im not huge on it. It seems to cause many problems between people. Its an iffy and very touchy subject to talk about from my point of view. *hoping not to offend anyone* Religion isnt such a huge thing at my age I believe but I respect it and like to hear about different kinds. I think its cool for people to write about it though because they believe in it and let their voices be heard.

Another great religious poet is the band U2. In an interview Bono said he tries to write about either people running to or away from God. So yeah, go rock on with your religious poetry.

People write about what matters to them... and for a lot of people, religion and spirituality reaches to their very core. It seems natural to me to write about these feelings.

Poetry is limitless. I don't see why someone shouldn't write about something that is as.. influential as religion.

I think you should be able to write about anything you like but you have to realize no matter what you write not everyone is going to like it or agree with it. Religion is no different than any other topic, it just depends who is writing it and how they approach it, on how people respond to it.

People react different to all different types of poems. It depends on what you are interested in.

Well, my opinion dosnt mean much , but i dont tnk it is neccisarly a bad thing that people talk aobut their religion, because u have to remeber that, Judism, Islam, and Christianity, all come down to the same point of Isaac. But for the other religions, we should be understanding of them because every1 is diff.

I think its all right as long as its done tastefully and not bashing another religion or saying that one is more superior but I tend not to read it to much cause im not a very religious person but some of them are preaty good and I really liked.

I think that the best poetry is about something that the poet is passionate because it gives the poem more depth and power, and to follow a religion properly you have to be passionate about it, therefore making some of the best poetry in my opinion, religious. just a thought. xXx

We must write what is in our heart, if there are those who will not enjoy a religious poem, let them move on. Let us write what our heart desires.

Well me coming from a religous family, I have no porblem at all with religous poetry. Quite a few of my poems are religion related.

But when I see someone writing that they think that God is a bisexual female yes I do get upset. But that is there personal feeling and everyone has there own belief
    on that subject.

And if your not religious then obviously they would'nt bother writing a religous poem or even bother being in that category or part of the site!

    =)
