Ways of looking at things.

I will start this off with the details:
My English Honors teacher told us to write an essay (formal) on a object that changes our lives. I did mine on clocks. I stated that it plays many roles in a persons life.. and went on to how it impacted the universe, knowing the time, and having a sense of understanding. Well.. My teacher wasn't to pleased with my topic and said so at the end of the essay.

''Jennifer, that was a poorly choosen topic and not exactly what I was looking for from you. I was hoping you'd pick the computer or phone. Better luck next time''

I got an 80 on it. Probably my lowest grade in that class. I thought it was one of the best papers I have written so far.. but I guess not.

I'm sure you are wondering, what the point is. I want to know what object is most essential to you in your life.. and explain to me why.

I think that a clock is an excellent idea. A computer or a phone? For topics like this they seem sort of.. cliche. A clock is thoughtful and classic, but that's just my opinion.

    Haha. What else, but love?

Love has kept me alive, for love is all I need.

Many will disagree with me, but love is most esstential to me.

And I'm sorry about your paper. I know you are a wonderful writer and I'm sure it was just as wonderful.

The lever is the single most important invention of all time. Be it a stick in the ground shifting a stone slab or a pair scissors, a hinge joint on a crane arm or a geometric compass we'd have nothing remotley impressive as a civilization without it.

"I've often wondered who would want to buy a tear stained book"

Hot Topic has a market share full of emo kids dying (well, cutting at least) to buy tear stained books. *grins*

Bob, only a very arrogant person quotes themselves, at least quote someone well known like me for example, and you can quote me on that.

My girlfriend is a most useful thing.

If it were a year today I would say it was a pen. Today I would say it would be a good book.

First of all, any kind of teacher who expresses disappointment at a student choosing a topic from their own freewill is a wanker. Especially if it's implied that your choice is not restricted. I mean... the flush handle on the toilet changed MY life. Up until the point I used the whole mechanism from start to finish by myself I was beholden to someone else to complete the task.

    Hooray for flushing.

    Haha Bob.

And Yes.. I was very angry with my teachers statement.. and how she graded me on what she thought I should have done. Concidering the paper was untouched except for ONE error.

Yeah, I definitely think you should talk to her about the paper, if you haven't already. I mean "I was hoping you would pick phones or computers?" Please. Good job being creative. There are lots of interesting ways to look at the concept of time, and I do think our perception of it significantly shapes how we think and live.

Hmm... important object to me.... The corners of notebook paper. My friend and I would tear the corners and write notes on them that we passed in class, and we could say many things that would sound so strange to say in words. But on those paper corners, I found that he had a spirit that searched for the same things as mine... they helped me discover another person, and discover myself. Even now, when he goes to a school a few hundred miles away, when i hear paper quietly ripping my brain goes on high alert, subconsciously expecting that i'm going to get another little folded wedge of inspiration.

    sigh. yeah....

I think the idea of the clock was great.. :o I would've never came up with that, I think, and I don't get why the teacher was so mean about it =S I mean... It was the perfect object for making such an essay! :o
