I'm trying to come up with a poem related to pumpkins for a school magazine, but I don't know what to do. I want it to be more childish, than the poems I have now. So that they are more appropriate, and not obviously personal.

Have any tips on writing children poetry, please let me know!

how old are the kids ur writing for?

i have to agree, keep it simple for primary kids, with no hidden meanings. =)

middle schoolers would like sumthing simple but not really little kiddish
    i.e Pumpkins are orange
pupmkkins are big, round, and filled with seeds and so on and so forth. that just wont appeal to their style but oyu cant put to personal feelings into it.

I'd say stick to something simple but not too kiddish. Also not too deep either. They might get confused if its actually deep. (hmm writting a very deep poem about a pumpkin would be an interesting thing to be deep about eh) Take it from experience. Its not fun to have a bunch of your peers having a dumbfounded expressions on their faces. I'd also stick to rhyming as well. Pretty simple i think.

Simplicity is key, and pretend you are telling a story.

I agre stick to a certain ryhme scheme like aabb or abab thats proberly the easiest to keep kids entertained. Make it simple, and yet have a story behind it with imagery. That should get the children to understand it.
