I went to the coulencers a few days ago, and she said that after 9 months of intensive coulencing that i should be feeling a whole lot better about life and all that, but im not. So she put me on anti-depressants, now im always feeling sick and tired, i hate it. But i guess about 2 weeks of feeling sick will result in me feeling better, so is worth going through the pain and feeling sick all the time???

    plez help

Anti depressants work sometimes and sometimes they don't. But remember you have to work as well, they can't do everything on their own. When I was on them, I didn't feel that different, and I didn't get any side effects, but they weren't the right drug for me. Give them a go, when they work, they work wonders.

^^ I completely agree with most of those things, but sometimes medication is a neccesity, and in depression it can be incredibly helpful. In my opinion it should be used alongside therapy, AFTER trying therapy, and giving it a chance to work.

I have been through clinical depression.. That is not 'mind over matter' don't care what anyone says.. I have just gone back on anti-depressants cos I know I am not strong enough on my own.. yes they do only work to a certain extent, but they can help to get You strong enough to fight the illness.. I know if they don't hurry up and kick in I may give in [unintentionally] but I want to fight it.. anti-depressants.. I know for a fact can help.

The question is: What are you on?

Some crap medications don't work...and some cause weight gain and so on. You really need to experiment with the types of medications. I went through three types of meication before they even realized I was Bipolar.

If you are on something like Lexapro... That sh-t DOESN'T work. Even my friend who was on Lexapro said it doesn't work..

So, yeah, I hope that helped and made sense.

Look it up and research your pills..
That's what I did with all of mine..
Research them and learn more about them. Why take things you don't understand?
    They may not even work..

I just did a report on this. = ] Hopfully I can help.

Antidepressents produce more of a chemical called neurotrasmitters in your brain. When these chemicals are unbalanced you start getting symptoms of depression. Stress usualy makes them unbalanced, so over time you start feeling down or "depressed".

Since the medication has to work in this way, it takes A LONG time. Sometimes people have to take them for years before they can finally be free of them, but I don't want you to think you may have to. It depends on your stage of depression and what your doctor recomends. For you to start feeling better may take up to six months or longer. Two weeks isn't long enough for you to feel them working. And you are most likely feeling sick because your body hasn't gotten used to the medication in your system yet. Give it time. Don't give up yet!

Like in the above post, it's a good idea to do LOTS of reserch on your antidepressent. You should know all of the side effects. And in your case, feeling sick is one of them. Other seriouse one's are increased thoughts of suicide and feeling week or dizzy. Sometimes you may even experiance falls. Be carefull about what you are exposing to your body. Talk to your doctor or your councler and see if everything is okay. Don't keep it all to yourself. Bad things may happen.

Once again, PLEASE do reserch. It's the best advice I can give.

hey just fyi: anti depressants take at least 2-4 weeks to even kick in. so you shouldn't be feeling them at all right now.

Person with the long ass name two posts above me - It will not be the end of the world. And you most certainly can stop if you do not like the effects.

Person above me - Ugh. If only I had a gun.

To the poster - Nine months is a very short amount of time for your counselor to conclude you are "cured" (Depending on your condition of course). If you are receiving counsel for depression (my first guess) then I suggest finding a new therapist.

"I believe emotional illness is 'mind over matter', you have control over the things you do. Maybe not always having control over how you feel, but the things you do will be your base for how you feel."

Try controlling your serotonin and norepinephrine levels. It is certainly not a 'mind over matter' problem.

Morgan - Yes, those chemicals are called neurotransmitters. The two most common chemicals believed to affect depression are the above mentioned.

There are thousands, if not millions, of chemicals in your body that influence your mood. When it comes to 'fixing' depression, there is no stead fast cure.

Like Ecstasy said. You need to experiment with different types of medications in different ways. Let a trained professional, who you trust (I might add), guide you through the process.

    ^ Don't flatter yourself.

Just in the foot. That way you remember it's there everytime you take a step, and ponder why you are stepping in the first place.

Anti Depressants can work. But they don't do everything on their own. Some of it has to come from you as well.

well i was tried on it for about 8 months last year and it sorta worked but i think the main thing that worked for me was that i was talkin through my issues and trying positive copying skills...and doing good things for myself. i thought i didnt need it anymore and that i could do it all by myself so i stopped it and sorta went downhill after that. then this year i ended up in hospital and they decided to try it on me again. before i was only one 1 1/2 tablets but they put me up to 3 tablets this time which i think is the highest you can go. it didnt do anything for me this time. and a few other girls i was in hospital with also were on it and said it was having no affect on them. one girl though who was 16 took it and it was doing wonders for her...she was a totally new person when she left from when she came in. by the way all the ppl who i am talking about are all teenagers so it could have a different affect if your older. but i heard that prozac is the most common anti depressant to put children and adolescents on as it is the one that has been tested the most. it is supposed to have lesser side affects but it still does have side affects though. myself didnt get any side affects and out of all the ppl i no who have taken it i ahve heard that it gave one person strange dreams and another person felt slightly nauseaus the first week of trying it but that was because the body was getting used to it. but no one i no had experienced any long term affects... personally i ahve been tried on a couple of anti depressants and they haven't really had an affect. some people it can work miracles for expecially if your depression is based on a chemical in balance in the brain rather than events in your life that have made you depressed. i think though the best way to beat depression is through talking and working out your issues with someone you can trust and who is helpful. after all a problem shared is a problem halved and ur problem will just keep coming back if u don't confront it. also doing healthy activities with family and friends. going for a walk, writing listening to music..and working out some positive coping skills. i no i'm not the best to talk about it coz i still don't do the best of things for myself at times but still one is only human. but basically go with want your instinct tells you. if u want to try it and think it will help than give it ago. but make sure u keep in contact with your doctor/counsellor so they can keep an eye on it progress...even tho only u will truly no how it is going. but if u rather no be on medication don't be afraid to tell ur practitioner that and start trying other methods of getting better.. u can post ur decision if u want..or keep me posted or woteva...ur choice...hope that helped

when i was on them i only used to have 1 a day (30mg) but after a while they just had no affect on me so i got told to take 2 a day. they didnt help me at all because i was that depressed i couldnt even be bothered to get out of bed and take the tablets.

now im seeing a phychologist and talking through my issues, she is great and seems to be genuinly wanting to help (its not about the money either because she doesnt charge)

    my pleasure

oh and october...i no what u mean how they genuianlly care even if u don't pay to see them. i see a few different counsellors for different things and all except one don't cost any money...and yet still they take time out of there busy schedules to see me even when i don't deserve there emphathy they give it. and they really care about whats happening...it's good to know that even though there are alot of corrupt counsellors out there, there's also a bunch of good ones too.

and i do agree feeling sick is a whole lot betta than being sad but still sometimes they can make you really sick which can make you depressed for a whole different reason or they can bring on other conditions like make you manic or make u hallucinate...so just be careful...that they aren't making you worse but better.

i've had my share of bad reactions to meds. we still haven't found any that have helped me and I'm on try number 12. That doesn't mean it's going to be like that for someone else. Some people find combinations that work much more easily. Some people get bad side effects and other people don't.

I currently have 3 therapist, all of which care. So does my psychiatrist. I've had other people in the past who also cared. There are more genuine counsellors than you'd expect.
