Wanna change the site, so do we.

    Hey guys,

I'm writing this as a Mod, but speaking only for myself.

If you have any ideas for changes to this website that would require some alteration of the code, structure options etc, then there is really very little point putting it in here, because only the mods look at it and we can do nothing.

I'd suggest you email Janis Krummins, who is the site creator, you can find him in the members section though he has not posted on this website in many months.

I am writing this because some of you are expecting improvements from your ideas, and they have not come about and you may be forgiven for thinking we have something to do with that, well we do not. The mods are even more frustrated then most of you.

So yeah, if you have new ideas that would need an actual change of this websites structure, say a new forum for example, email Janis because posting it here won't achieve anything.

Aside from that, look out for each other, we can do only so much.

Indeed...so little we can do, but so much we get from you....Time for him to wake up and smell the coffee

Personally one of the biggest problems is the Picture Upload.. I have a thread called 'Picture Solution' .. best worth checking out ;).

  • Kevin

Mark, with all due respect, the picture upload is not even in the top 100 important things needing fixed on this site, it might be 101, but that fix will have to get in line after more serious issues, like spamming etc.

I am afraid that may never happen..lol. The board has already been overrun by it.

Well spamming isn't a problem which takes much to change. I've seen PLENTY of scripts that can change a spamming issue.

Changing the picture files isn't a big task, too. It's the little things which all equal to one huge thing.

I also must admit the forums are REALLY basic, too which might be a cause of a spamming issue not being able to be fixed.

I mean.. you can't have a signature, avatar, or even a post count. I just think the smaller issues should be fixed before the bigger issues as the smaller ones can be fixed a lot faster than the larger issues.

Sometimes also you can spend ages trying to find the solution and never finding one.

Yo mark, I don't think you are listening to me mate. There are bigger issues at hand than post counters and avatars, and yes we know they aren't very difficult to install, but we can't do that as Mods, and the only person who can doesn't come here anymore.

Stopping people using this site as a source of contact for underage girls, an outlet for rascism and other negative ways of interacting is far more important than having pictures next to our names wouldn't you agree? I don't care how much time it takes, the bigger problems are bigger because they are more important and so should be dealt with first because they present the largest possible concern, especially to us Mods.

So please get on board with pestering Janis about changing this place.

I agree with you Kevin, but I find the problems you addressed are ones which cannot be fixed. There is no way to prevent racism. There is no way to tell if an account was made by a sexual predator. Those are problems which require no change in the code and are irrelevant to the post. Fixing issues like those are up to the mods. The only way to stop harassment is to confront the harasser directly, which usually ends with an account suspension... which again leads me back to no change in the code.

If Janis wanted to fix any of the current problems he would have already. I'm sure he has received dozens, if not mor,e emails. We will just have to wait and see.

Nobody, I'm afraid you do not fully understand either my friend.

The problems I am talking about can be fixed, not by the eradication of rascism through code, but by the altering, through code of the abilities of the Mods to successfully deal with such things, because at the moment we can't completely combat these issues effectively without massive effort and time. You are wrong when you say fixing these things is up to the mods, It is up to Janis, and until he does fix them we can do nothing except ask for good manners and mop up when things get nasty.

Janis has abandoned this site, and to me that means he doesn't care about the many people who are being hassled day to day because there is nothing to stop them being hassled, even though we have sent him the means to change that.

But regardless, I do not mean to go against you, you just need to know, like everyone else, what we mods can and can not do, and thusly where our responsibility begins and ends.

I understand that the mods can't fix most of the problems, and the only one that can is Janis but what are we suppose to do if we are handling sexist and racist comments, I come on this site for the love of poetry and the only one who can really do anything about it doesn't really seem to care. Janis created the site, but what are us individual people to do about the sexist and racist comments, and yes I understand that you mods can't really do much about it unless Janis does something. I may not understand every single thing a mod does, but what about the other issues? how are we suppose to get rid of the racist and sexist comments? If Janis isn't here then what are we suppose to do?

Could you tell us exactly what mods can and cannot do, because I don't full understand why deleting an account takes a tremendous amount of time.

  • PnQ Mod Account

Technically, we (mods) cannot delete an account, only the admin can do that.

If someone REALLY wants their poems and account gone, or in the case of someone that needs suspended, we can report two poems as if they were plagiarized or inappropriate and delete them with penalties and that will suspend the account. (or if they are causing problems on the forum, we can delete their posts with penalty until the account is suspended)

Like was said above, though... the problem is with the fact that they can just make another account.

if you were going to delete someones account, would you notify them so they could save there poems some place else? Because i write mine on paper then on here, then lose the paper
so if my account was ever deleted i would lose all my poems

well, ~me~, one of the rules states that you are to save your poems before submitting them. There have been many MANY posts about people losing poems for one reason or another... will people ever learn??

    Save your poems!!!

  • Mark

Maybe not everyone thinks of that when they're writing/posting a poem. I certainly don't.

I along with many others forget little tasks like that which is a major concern.

I know this may not be the most important thing on the list but some peoples computer, like mine, wont let them upload that small of a picture.
