What About Now?

I cut my wrists and bleed just for you,
Because I don't know what else to do.
It seems like forever since you have been gone,
Tonight I wish there was a star I could wish upon.

I can't stand the pain anymore, I'm just too weak,
And I'm tired of every night crying myself to sleep.
I tried so hard to be perfect for you, but it wasn't enough,
Now I have to stand up for myself and act like I'm tough.

You were the only boy that I truly cared about,
And without you by my side I sit and pout.
I need you more now, than I ever really did,
Come back to me and stop acting like a kid.

If I told you I was going to cut deep enough to die,
Would you care about me then and start to cry?
If I was going to put a gun to my head,
Would it change anything when inside I'm already dead?

If I told you I loved you more then I loved anyone before,
Would you be all mine and love me even more?
I'd give you the world and so much more if I could.
What about then? What about now? Would that be good?

Life Is A Highway

Trekking along the never-ending road
As the cars and trucks just pass on by
I continue to walk, the path of my dreams
And the sun glistens from the light blue sky

My memories are logged right in my brain
The happiness and sadness I hold
Retreating from this place, to a whole new land
I’m growing up and I’m getting bold

No longer a little girl, walking the garden path
I am older and wiser than most
Too many heartaches have ruined that past life
So I’m getting on up and ignoring my ghosts

Because my life is now a highway
And I’m riding all day long
No more sorrows left from yesterday
To keep me from going strong

I’ll walk with a massive smile
I’ll run with gigantic strides
And nothing will keep me from reaching the sky
I’m carrying on, my heart filled with pride

Sometimes you look right through me like I wasn't there
Not seeing hidden longing of a heart wrenched with despair
You go throughout your day, not noticing the pain
That fills my life with emptiness as teardrops fall like rain

You never see inside my soul and never look beyond
The smile I place upon my lips to help me carry on
Throughout the day you never see the pain that I endure
From broken promises you made, to me they are a blur.

You think that all I needed was security and wealth
But heartache is a lonely thing that messes with my health
Inside my troubled soul I keep a ledger in my mind
Of when you looked right through me, God, so many times

You never bother asking if I need your company
Or find the time to hold me, as night falls down on me.
A simple little gesture to show me that you care
Seems too much to offer in the moments that we share.

Am I just a token wife, that you know will find
The time to show undying love at any given time
Am I being selfish by demanding more from you
Than this life you gave me that's filled with solitude.

What's Left of Me.

Her wheels are turning down an old dirt road,
As her tattered young heart continued to erode;
And the tears are streaming down her face,
From baby blue eyes coated in bitter disgrace.

The radio is singing her a lonesome lullaby,
And all of her hopes are held up so high;
But she sits alone with a bag of clothes,
And where she ran off to, nobody knows.

Her hometown fades behind her as she set her eyes ahead,
Shrugging off every promise that you had ever said;
And she smashes her rearview as she reaches Tennessee,
Wiping her tears she mutters "You can't have what's left of me"

What's Left of Me was a great poem. You did a nice job, and even though it was shorter, I just thought I could really feel it. The flow and rhyme and message was great, and def different than the song. Nice job!

2nd Place - Twisted Heart
Invisible was well done. I enjoyed the rhyme and the unique perspective you did this poem from. It was different from what I was expecting and I liked that.

3rd Place - Midnight Sun~
Watching You
Though I did think some of the other poems that didn't win did have better flow, there was something that "called out to me" in this poem. It reminded me of a song I knew, and provided a happy memory, and I could picture it in my head. So good job!

Honorable Mention - I just wanted to say to the writer of What About Now that you did an excellent job! I am definitely going to read more of your work. I felt your last two stanzas were your strongest.
